Friends, I just wanted to share with all of you the wonderful time I had in Chicago over the weekend. Some of you may be familiar with Nancy Leigh DeMoss and her radio ministry Revive Our Hearts. The vision of this ministry became a 6,300 woman strong worship and teaching conference called True Woman '08. I attended with five other ladies from my church. We arrived in Chicago around lunch time on Thursday. Our first stop was Moody Bible Institute where one of our friend's daughter attends. We went to Giordano's for lunch. I just had to have a Chicago deep dish pizza. The conference opened at 4:30. Walking into the convention center was rather overwhelming. On each seat was a convention bag. It was one great tote bag. It was roomy, lots of pockets, and a zip closure on top. They even gave us a pocket packet of tissues. Yes, we needed these. Worship was lead all three days by Keith and Kristyn Getty and their band. Fantastic couple. I was blessed by their hymns. The Lord has truly blessed them with a wonderful talent. John Piper and Nancy Leigh DeMoss opened up the teaching on Thursday night. I took lots of notes. Friday morning started bright and early. I am a bit of a morning person. Apparently my friend, Linda, is as well because we were both up and showered before anyone else. We stayed at Holiday Inn Express, so we had the benefit of a continental breakfast. The morning session began with worship and teachings on the beginning of the feminist movement by Mary Kassian. It is amazing how influenced I am by this movement even when I didn't realize it. Fern Nichols, founder of Moms In Touch International, and Karen Loritts also spoke. We were served a box lunch of a turkey sandwich, apple, chips, cookie and water. Amazingly, they served 6,300 women in about 30 minutes. We grabbed our lunches and headed out the door to eat on the convention center grounds. The afternoon teaching was done in two breakout sessions. I was blessed that they had thought of us ladies with unsaved spouses. I went to that session for sure. I was going to attend a second one on prayer, but I got closed out of that. So, I went to "Girls Gone Wild" given by Mary Kassian. She did a side by side comparision of wild women and wise women. It was very well done. Our group wandered off site for dinner at a Mexican restaurant. The evening was spent with Janet Parshall and Joni Eareckson Tada. Actually, Joni sent in a video message as she is suffering such debilitating pain that she is unable to travel. I am so moved to see that Lord working in the hearts and lives of the women who attended the conference. There were many tears shed and hearts were humbled especially mine. I have been profoundly affected by attending this counter cultural revival meeting. I pray that all Christian women would embrace God's design for womenhood. Blessings, |
I just have not been doing a lot of blogging lately. The school year schedule is in full swing. I have come to the conclusion that part of the sacrifice involved in homeschooling is taking your children to be at activities with their friends when they reach adolescence. I just need to find the joy in running all over western NY. Well, that is probably a bit of an exaggeration, but some days (or weeks) it feels like it. We have also had a lot of appoinments between physicals, dental cleanings, haircuts and orthodontist visits. It is all very busy. I feel that it is important for the children to be involved in positive activities with their peers. So far it is all working out. Keep coming over to the blog spot blog. I have been posting some things over there. http://thefruitofherhands-motplus2.blogspot.com/ Blessings, Jennie |

I am feeling a little less tired. Actually, I think the AF just whips my tail every month. This never used to happen, but welcome to the 40+ years.. I finally got around to taking some pictures of the girls during their riding lessons. The pictures are over on the blogspot blog. http://thefruitofherhands-motplus2.blogspot.com/ Hope you enjoy! I don't know why I am so tired today. It seems like I have been having a hard time keeping my eyes open all day. I had a dental cleaning today. That turned out well. I also took Jonathan in for a check on his retainer. Tomorrow I have two appointments also. When it rains, it pours. One of my appointments tomorrow is with my ENT. I have to say that my voice has been steadily improving. I thank the Lord for His healing in me. I have even been tempted to sing during worship at church. I am supposed to refrain for a few weeks longer. I will double check with him about that tomorrow. We are also into our 3rd week of our 9th homeschool year. I am slowly adding in a new subject each week. This week Jonathan is starting TRISMS which is new for us, and the girls are beginning their science. I have been making bagels. This is my attempt to be frugal. I posted a lot of pictures on my blogspot blog. If you stop by, please leave a comment. I would sincerely appreciate it. http://thefruitofherhands-motplus2.blogspot.com/ Thank you for reading. Blessings, |
As you can probably tell from my last few entries, I am in the process of changing myself over to my blogspot blog. I love the community here at Homesteadblogger, but I just need a blog that is easier to use. As you can tell, I don't spend a lot of time trying to figure out HTML because I still have a winter picture in my header, and it is August. Every time I want to change something here I have to solicit my husband's help. He is more than happy to do it, but we then spend half our evening together messing around with the blog. So, I am not really leaving Homesteadblogger. I will post on both, but my main entries will be over on blogspot. Any by the way, come over and check out the pictures of my kitchen garden. It is fairing a lot better than the main garden. http://thefruitofherhands-motplus2.blogspot.com/ Blessings, |

Finally the rain stopped long enough for us to go to the county fair yesterday. I think everyone else had the same idea because it was crowded. I posted a longer entry over on blogspot. http://thefruitofherhands-motplus2.blogspot.com/ Blessings, |

The pictures are up! More pickle canning is planned for Tuesday. |

Finally, I am actually spending the majority of a day at home. I know now that I am not cut out to work outside of my home. I am sure if I had to that the Lord would give me the strength and grace to do it, but what a week. Last week was VBS at our church. I was gone from home at least 5 hours each day. On Thursday I went to a friend's house for the afternoon, so that made the day even longer. It was enjoyable but long. Friday we were at church in the morning for VBS and again in the evening for the closing VBS program and the LUAU! Saturday was 2 hockey games, one birthday party, and one Hannah Montana Concert party to drop a child off at in the evening plus grocery shopping. Yesterday was church, Sunday school and junior high youth group. Today the children and I worked in the garden. I am so very happy. It was in such desperate need of attention. We tilled up the horrible overgrown pathways between the beds, laid weed fabric, and then put down mulch. I ran out of fabric anchors and did not have any more of my "homemade" variety. So, I just tilled those paths. Hopefully, I can find something to anchor the fabric in the other rows. Once this is done then the beds themselves need more attention. I noticed some of my potatoes need more hilling as I saw some potatoes sticking out this morning. I covered them the best I could. I also have four fresh loaves of bread made, and the pinto beans are in the crockpot for dinner. It was a very productive morning. I am very pleased. This afternoon we will tackle the inside work that needs to be done. The children and I just need to do a lot of tidying. Have a blessed day on your homesteads! |
Well, not much is going to be happening on this homestead this week because we are knee deep in VBS. It is like working a part time job. We left the house today at 8 AM because we live 25 minutes from church and returned home at about 1:30 PM. I started a new breakfast plan that I am hoping will carry over into the new school year. Everyone is getting their own breakfast. For years, I felt that I must make and serve a nice breakfast to my kids because my children were home. That worked very well at that time, but the older children are getting older. It is just not working for them to wait around for the little ones, so everyone is getting their own breakfast starting today. So far; so good. Somehow in the midst of this VBS chaos I need to figure out how to take care of 16 quarts of sour cherries that I got at the farmer's market. They are seconds, but they were such a deal I could not pass them up. They are in the refrigerator, but I know I must attend to them ASAP. My voice is improving. Thank you all very much for your prayers. I am still not able to talk beyond quiet conversations, but the raspiness is dwindling down to virtually nothing. Thank you, LORD! Thank you for all your support and encouragement. Blessings, |
