I am thinking like you are about the canning.I always want to can more than we need. I want to share with others and we never know what the winter has in store for us. I was very sick this summer, taking chemo, and did not can tomatoes.We had plenty in the garden, but I was just too sick to do it. The girls did some canning,but they were too busy with the rest of the things that needed done to do much canning. My mom canned more than she would use in three yrs time, so I got tomatoes frrom her. It is so nice to be able to do for others like she did for me. Hopefully this summer I will be well and I can can tomatoes for someone else in need.
As for buying seals, I buy mine at walmart. I will keep watching this post for a better place to buy them. Maybe you could pm me if you find a good place.

I know 2 places that I buy bulk lids - maybe they would ship them to you? I buy in bags of 10 dz lids. They are MUCH cheaper than Ball lids!!!! usually they have a sale in the spring and they are even 10% off what they normally are. It's an amish store - but I could look up the address for you.

Right now we don't have much garden space, but dh does have his great job. But with so much engineering going overseas, we are trying to treat this as our 7yrs of plenty and spend very frugally. It is quite possible that one day he won't make the amount of money that he does, and we try to be aware of that!

I love to put food up in bulk. :) Right now I've decided that it's just laziness that causes me to go to the store. I have sooooo much food around here that I'm just going to eat what we have for a while. That will make dh very, very happy. He says we eat like kings when we don't go to the store. :P

We get ours from the local amish. They normally run 20 dollars for 48 reg or 36 wide. Email if you would like their address to see if they ship. Good luck!
