Family Accused of Having ‘Too Many Kids’

The Smith family (name changed to protect privacy) was contacted by an Austin social services worker who stopped by the house. When Mrs. Smith answered the door the social worker demanded to enter the home and to talk with the children. Instead of allowing her entrance, Mrs. Smith contacted HSLDA.

One accusation against the family was that they had “too many children.” They were also accused of requiring their children to “do the dishes” and of taking their frustrations out on the older children. The Smiths have seven children, with two adopted through foster care. In response, the family gave 25 letters of reference, a statement from their doctor, and a copy of the home study they had done to become foster parents.

Senior Counsel Chris Klicka contacted the social worker and explained the family's Fourth Amendment rights and explained how ridiculous the allegations were. Finally, the family received a call from the social worker that the case was closed because the accusations against the family were false.

LOL.....I am laughing at the comment above and how her 18 month old does the dishes!!!

I can't believe they came with reports that they have too many children and they make their children do dishes! LOL How crazy is that??? Glad I dont' pay taxes in that county, otherwise I would be having a fit on them!

Oh my goodness...what a terrible thing to accuse someone of! Sounds like someone who has nothing better to do than accuse others of a happy family life! I hope they are left alone and not subjected to any more gestapo interrogations.

Wow, my 23mo *loves* dishes! He'll put away silverware, hand me plates, slop around in the water - whatever I let him do! Oh, and he's got *double* the work - I usually cook and hand him silverware, plates, cups one or two at a time to put on the table so he usually sets the table, too.

well my kid are "suffering" than too because they did the dishes and folded the clothes tonight. Poor dears. Give me a break! Sometimes people need to mind their own business.

This is almost hard to believe...that someone would report a family for these things! Very sad. But, yes, I have repeat offenders in the dish duty category. It's funny, because just the other day a neighbor was visiting and I mentioned something about my 11yr. old daughter getting her dishes done and the woman exclaimed, "She has to do dishes? Is she being punished?" Haha, I said, "No, they all have rotating dish duty," I couldn't believe her shock.

I love the the comment about your 18 mo. old doing dishes, haha. That's priceless.
