Tarpe Diem or Carpe Tarpe and School Daze

{ 06:41, Saturday, September 2, 2006 } { Posted in House News } { 5 comments } { Link }

All I can say is, tarpe diem - sieze the tarp! Or is carpe tarpe more proper? Isn't diem the word for day? At any rate, we are experiencing the rains & winds of Ernesto here in the northeast (New England) today, and since we have a lot of holes in the roof, they are all tarped...

This is one giant hole from the ceiling top to the rooftop rafters, all open... and there are also holes in other parts of the roof where giant floor beams were hoisted up this week & put into place...

Actually, there are loads of places to see the stars from inside. This is a photo of the basement stairway. The back wall, which is partially gone, was the side of a closet now being demolished so a stairway up can be put in over the existing basement stairs. Any blue spots you see (minus the electrical box there) are holes currently tarped.

The yard is full of beams & floor board, we just need some good weather...

Meanwhile, the girls have completed their first few days of school. They were a daze.. lots of changes, but I believe they're all good ones. As promised, here they are in their 80s garb (leggings & mini skirts). Here's Natalie showing off her funky sneakers....

We actually found a pair for each gal, and they both wanted them, so here's Joy in her outfit & sneaks:

She is looking & acting so old this week.. fifth grade! In fifth grade, each child carries around a binder with an agenda the school gives out, and as a parent I have to sign that agenda each night to say Joy did her homework, which she writes down in the agenda...

That's about it here today. We are expecting my brother from CA in tomorrow night, that will be fun - I have two brothers, both younger, one in CA and one here (the one doing the work on the house).

I have been reading posts from friends - please check out Darcy's post about celebrating her anniversary & her hubby's birthday this weekend. Also, kenyachick took some African friends shopping for flip flops & shirts. Momof2 weathered Ernesto & some home renovations, and surfercajun offers thoughts on Katrina, one year later. I read all of your posts regularly, dear friends, even if I did not comment here.. I always hit the friends button to see what you're up to.

Thanks for stopping by, enjoy the long weekend!

Your girls are darling and I love those sneakers. Maria, my 18 year old, recently bought some of those 80s leggings. Much to her relief, Mom didn't. Thank the Lord for tarps when you're trying to get big things accomplished on your house! Have a terrific week...............Denise (prairiemom)

Thanks for the pictures

Ah.....tarps to keep out the rain. Been there, done that.... Wait until I tell you our story from last Halloween!! Looks like progress is being made though. Also looks like maybe you've been doing more blinkie shopping lately?

Thinking of you often. Your girls are beautiful :)

Hey Chris,
Good to see all the progress and wow that's a big tarp! It is so nice to be able to catch your happenings cause i've been so busy lately I have little to no time for socializing. Hopefully I will have more time on my hands now that the tag sale if through. Hope we can get together soon and get that birthday dinner in soon! Take care

Hiya! How are you doing today? We are doing well - enjoying another beautiful day in the 70's. Emma and Beka have been playing outside, finding snails and such. I am working on a blanket for my husband. I had been making fleece blankets with baby blanket binding for all of my children when Darrell said he would like one as well for the truck. So, he picked out two different, 1 solid and 1 patterened and binding to match. I put the two pieces of fleece together (about 3 yards) and am sewing two of the baby blanket bindings around it. I have sewn one and am hoping to finish up the other this afternoon and evening.

Emma got some mail yesterday and was SO excited! ;)

Have a wonderful afternoon Miss Christine! Hugs, Robin
