Frontier House and an update

We got Frontier House in the mail from netflix.com and began watching it last night. It is a 6 hour documetary about 3 modern day families journeying back to 1883 Frontier Life. It was really good. I could do away with some of the dramatics but seeing the way of life is great. I know we all talk about getting back to a simplier way of life and even add in a few simplistic elements such as wood cook stoves and such. However, I don't think we even have the fogiest idea as to how difficult life was for our ancestors. Even though, I have chickens laying in my back yard if something happened to them all I could run up to the store. We just don't realize how good we have it. I love living a simplier life but I always have the conveniences if I need them. It seems like the overwhelming theme among the women is how hard there day is. How they start at daybreak to dusk working to meet the needs of the family. Just doing the laundry is an all day task. I do think we could use a little bit of work in the area of working all day and then I wouldn't be trying so hard to lose some weight.LOL However, our modern day lifestyle has taken a lot of that work away. I guess it is a double edged sword. I love my grain grinder and my bread machine. I love my washer and dryer. I love my stove and crockpot. Oh, and my newest addition is myelectric juicer. We love homemade lemonaid and OJ. The manual juicer would have been fine but the electric makes so much more juice. Anyway, I guess we can have both our simplistic things and modern conveniences.
And for my update.... The healthier new me is going really well. I can't wait to go weigh Tuesday. I will probably be dissappointed as I have been exercising some. That's ok, I feel 100% better. I even made pancakes this morning and did not eat a plate of them. That is a huge feat for me. I made them with whole wheat flour and honey. We are going for overall good health for our whole family not just DH and I. If you have some great recipes with honey I would love them.LOL
We went to see National Treasure 2 yesterday. It was very good. DH was off and we decided to wait and see it with him. Today, Dh and oldest DD are hunting. They have been gone a while so I hope they have gotten something. I will finish some laundry and then clean up a bit. My sister and her husband are coming back from Jackson this evening and will stop by for dinner. I am making deer minute steaks and gravy with onion, peas and squash from the freezer, pinto beans, and biscuits. It's not a fancy meal but it is what I have on hand.
I hope you all have a great day.
Blessings,
Trixi

Don't worry if you don't loose the first week or so, you are just starting out and just feeling better is already a victory!!! And not eating one of those pancakes....also a victory! LOL

I really liked Frontier House myself. I agree with you about the drama factor. It's amazing everything they did with those little cabins.
Blessings,
Leigh-Ann
good for you

I am so proud of you. I know the feat and did about two weeks of the no refined sugars but then fell off the wagon over the holidays. I am hoping to get back into it come Monday. I will pray for you and if you think of it pray for me as well. I love my sweets.

“I want to know one thing,” said John Wesley, “—the way to heaven: how to land safe on that happy shore. God himself has condescended to teach the way. He hath written it down in a book. O give me that book! At any price, give me the book of God! I have it: here is knowledge enough for me. Let me be a man of one book.”
