Our Christmas....

As we have moved an hour+ South, our Christmas was a little different than in years past.  Usually we are running here and there, but this year we just stayed home on Christmas morning.  We had had an excellent time of reading Scripture and praising the Saviour the night before.  My son got us up about 6:30 Christmas morning to open gifts.  We did this in a very laid back manner.  The kids were overjoyed with the few gifts we got them.  I had the breakfast casserole going in the oven and we ate it.  It was so good and Ds asked why we don't have it more often.  I don't know why I don't cook it more, as it is so simple.  Anyway, I worked on a few casseroles and then about 1:00 I put my turkey in the oven.  DH and I laid down for a long nap.  DH's parents came around 3:30.  We ate a large dinner around 5:00 and they stayed to visit for a couple of more hours.  It was a very nice visit.  We have come a long way from the way things were last year.  As I have said in the past, Dh has clearly seen from Scripture that we are to live peaceably with all men.  I do believe God was glorified in my house yesterday.

Then today, we got together at my mom's for our Christmas lunch.  It was so good and we so enjoyed the fellowship with my family.  We got to love on our new little nephew for hours.  It was just great.  Ofcourse, MiMi over did it on the gifts for the grands but atleast she has quit buying for all of the adults.  We are slowly working on her.LOL  She is trully one of those people who would give you here right arm.  God has worked wonders in her life in this area.  Now, I just pray He works on her in homeschooling area.LOL

I have been so blessed and God has taught us so many lessons this season about life and family.  How we just need to win them by loving them.  Basically, just do what Jesus did.  There have been so many years that I have dreaded all of this togetherness but that was the sin in my heart.  This year I gave it all to Jesus and just prayed to have a heart like His and we have had the best time of fellowship ever.  My brother, who hasn't done a lot of family gatherings until he and his wife had the new nephew, even said when is the next family gathering.  I will say that was an A++.

I encourage anyone who is going through some strained family situations to really pray for God to work on your heart.  I have some things that I could really have great reason to not ever speak to some family members again but that would not win a single soul to Jesus Christ.  He said if someone slaps you on the right cheek give them your left also.  He took relentless persecution and He was our example.  Now, trust me I fail regularly at this, but I can tell you just from the past 2 days, that agreeing to disagree and living peaceably is such a much better way to live.

Blessings,

Trixi

with your family.

I can totally agree with you about God working in a person's heart. It has been 10 1/2 yrs ago that the Lord saved me and gave me a new heart. Everyone thought that I had been saved as a young child. But nobody could argue after seeing the change done in my heart for loving other people. It is God's love that comes through to others not mine. If it was left up to me to truely love others, I would fail terribly just the way I did before God saved me.

I am so glad that you were able to enjoy your Christmas and your family. That is the way it should always be.

Much love,
Pat

trixi ~

What a wonderful post! I am glad to hear that the Lord was with you and you were able to show forth love to your extended family.... that is exactly what He has taught us to do ... to love one another! I know that takes some faith and some discipline too. :)

Thanks for sharing your day with us and how the Lord is working on your heart!

Blessings~

That is one of the Greatest things about our Lord and Savior!!
It's the individual relationship He has with each of us!! And the comfort is: if it lines up with Scripture, there is no doubt, it is He........even if what He as for you is different that what He has for ___!!
I am so glad to hear He lead you to the place you are in and you obediently followed!! There is SO much Peace in obedience!!

That is great to hear about the good stuff you had going on with your family gathering, and its quite obvious that the brother felt it the same as well. So true about what you say in regards to CHRIST, we wont win them over if we ourselves are arent willing to show Love.

Thanks for the encouragement. I think many of us dread family gatherings.

“I want to know one thing,” said John Wesley, “—the way to heaven: how to land safe on that happy shore. God himself has condescended to teach the way. He hath written it down in a book. O give me that book! At any price, give me the book of God! I have it: here is knowledge enough for me. Let me be a man of one book.”
