Our Saturday crafting project (pics)

We have made these several years and they are so much fun.  We made this batch Saturday while oldest DD was gone with a friends family to Jackson.  Here is the recipe:

Salt Dough
2 cups flour
1/2 salt
3/4 c. hot water from the tap
Mix salt and water together for one minute then add flour.  We add whatever color paint we are wanting the salt dough to be to the hotwater salt combo and then add the flour.  Sometimes you have to keep adding paint to the salt dough to get the desired color.  After we make up each color we put them in individual sandwhich bags.

Here are some other needed supplies:

Polyurethane to seal the salt dough ornaments.  I use the fine tip sharpies to make faces.  The toothpicks I use to help mold fingers and such.

Here is all the salt dough we made up for our ornaments.  We made 9 batches.  We also use a garlic press for hair on angels and Joseph and Mary etc.

I cook my ornaments on aluminum foil on a cookie sheet.  So we just tape a piece of aluminum foil to the table to make the ornaments on.

Here is the finished product in the oven cooking.  Before cooking them we put wire hangers in the top to put on the tree.   Cook them in the oven on 225 until they are dried about 2-3 hours.  Today, I will paint on the poly to seal them.

Blessings,

Trixi

Oh these remind me of the figures we used to make when I was a child! Wow that brought back memories! I think my older kids would love to make these.....I'll ask them and see what they think.
Looks like you had a great time with the kids!
Blessings~

“I want to know one thing,” said John Wesley, “—the way to heaven: how to land safe on that happy shore. God himself has condescended to teach the way. He hath written it down in a book. O give me that book! At any price, give me the book of God! I have it: here is knowledge enough for me. Let me be a man of one book.”
