Christmas Parades and small town life....

You know since we have been here now 4 months, I have lots of little things I could pick apart.  For instance, I see camouflage everywhere I go even the girls wear it LOL, the southern dialect is thick, we don't even have a Lowe's for pitty sake, the teeny tiny hospital I would be afraid of, and I could go on and on.  However, tonight we went to the Christmas parade and the sense of community makes me embarrassed to pick things apart.  This is a county seat of 4,000 people and I want you to know they were all either in the parade or at it.  The pride they have in their police, fireman, ambulances and local businesses was a very almost nostalgic thing.  All of the service vehicles were washed and waxed.  There was a real pride in what was going on.  The parade went up around the square, and they closed down all the streets coming in and out of the square.  We thoroughly enjoyed it.  So in order to have this kind of nostalgia, I guess I have to drive 30 miles to a Lowe's.  That's just fine.  Now, if we could just find that little group of like minded believers we are looking for.  All in God's timing, I have to remind myself.

Blessings,

Trixi

I had to smile when I read your post.. it could have been written by "yours truly" one year ago...... the adjustment to our small town has been significant, but I can also seem some wonderful redeeming qualities......

I hope you find a group of like minded believers to join in worship....... are you still holding home church?

Blessings~

Yes, we are still doing a home church but we are having to drive an hour and a half back home to have any type of like minded fellowship. I would just love to find one person who understands the concept of a Titus 2:5 worker at home. I get the most amazing looks from people when they ask what do you do, and I say well, I stay at home or keep my home. It is like a foreign concept. It's just hard when you go from a very large community of like mindedness to knowing noone. Any suggestions?
Blessings,
Trixi

but our's is fast becoming a little bigger town. At least I am not in Memphis any more. I have watched alot of change come to our little town in the past 19 1/2 years.

We had a great small parade on Saturday. We are just like you guys down there.

I laughed at the camo part. My son and DD and grandson have one color of clothes.....camo! Not really but they all three have more camo than any other.

It's neat to hear someone else home churchs. We do also.

Good morning Trixi,
It's so hard to find people who want to live more simply with a traditional family like we do. Many people ask "what do you do all day" or "I wish I had so much free time" or "I could never do what you do". One of my favorites I've heard fairly lately is "Why do you make your own bread?"
May you find success in your search for a church closer to you. The one we feel most comfortable is a 6 hour drive so we've been searching and searching for one much closer to our house. This last weekend we ended up at a tiny (we were 5 of the 13) country church we hadn't been to for about 5 years. It was like we hadn't missed any time with them at all. Very welcoming. I think we're heading back again this Sunday.
Blessings,
Leigh-Ann

What an interesting post, I was in similar cahoots when we first moved here, but since we are now on post, I am much more calm(still crazy) and I am happy about the fact that living on post I am able to have my own 40*40 garden plot to work with. It truly is seeing the flowers among the thorns that makes us grateful.

I am glad you enjoyed the parade and now have a new sense of appreciation for where you live. I will be praying for your family time over this next year.

Oh, I am SOO with you, sister!!! In my former life (b4 small son was born) I was a career driven, bona fide, small town, "make things happen" woman. Was in charge of that small town parade you watched and know exactly the pride you're speaking of. Yeah, it's 40 minutes back into the church we go to now, but I am also praying for a group of like minded believers a'way out here. But, it's only been a week....

“I want to know one thing,” said John Wesley, “—the way to heaven: how to land safe on that happy shore. God himself has condescended to teach the way. He hath written it down in a book. O give me that book! At any price, give me the book of God! I have it: here is knowledge enough for me. Let me be a man of one book.”
