Homeschool Thanksgiving Get Together and earnestly praying for Deanna and family...

Well, today we met with the local Carthage homeschool group for a Thanksgiving lunch.  It was our first time to meet with them.  The food was great and I had some profitable talks but I had several concerns.  Now keep in mind we have moved from a whole church and community of like minded believers.  We are non denominational in the aspect that we read God's Word and do what it says.  We line up doctrinally Baptist but that's about it!!  With that said, there were several under 10 children and usually the neat thing about homeschool children is how well behaved they are.  That was not as present today.  They ran around this church building like wild animals.  My children needless to say stood beside me most of the time.  I got to thinking and praying and thought, well maybe God wants us to be the light for child training.  Someone had to be that for us.   Please, don't think, that I think, we have it all together, but we have learned a few things.  However, then I think 1 Cor. 15:33 says Do not be deceived:"Bad company corrupts good morals."                                          So do I want my children to be in this bad company?  Then the other issue is most of the moms work in this group.  A couple are nurses and work 20 hrs. a week.  One just teaches piano everyday from 2:00-5:00 or 6:00.  I just don't know how this sends a mixed message to my girls in training them to be keepers at home if they have a family.  I don't want them to get the message of having a career and a family.  The group we moved from, this was never an issue.  Anyway, it is just a lot to digest.

Deanna has posted another post regarding Jacob's condition.  I know none of you could possibly forget to pray but I just want to make sure we keep this family on our minds at all times.  Deanna's blog (and others) has been one of the big reasons I have come here for almost two years.  I look for her posts daily and our family has gleaned so much from theirs through this forum.  I can not tell you how sad I have been over this accident and I just want to continuously remind us all to pray ferverently for Jacob and also for Deanna and Dewey.  That God will give them strength and guidance while dealing not only with Jacob but all of the things that go into his care.

Blessings,

Trixi

Sorry to hear that you may not have found the right group for you. It can be hard, and I'm taking it you have moved to a new area?

As far as those moms working, some of them may have no choice. Either they may need to meet basic needs because their husbands paychecks can not, or their husbands might have requested them to work. I know that was my case...I often had to take a part-time job to help make ends meet, at my husband's request. Right now I have to work because my husband and I are separated (NOT by my choice). I admire those women for still homeschooling despite the fact that they work. I wish I could do the same.

:)

Amy Jo,
I am not passing judgement on their working or whether or not they are working at their husbands request. I am more looking at the impact their lifestyle has on what I am trying to instill in my daughters. I too worked up until my oldest daughter was in 3rd grade and we all came home. I am just trying to instill in my girls what we saw from the Word. I am glad those children are being homeschooled. I think anything they do that keeps them closer to the Lord is a great thing.
Blessings,
Trixi

I had not been over to her blog and I had missed what has happened to her sons.

I have left her a comment and sent her my cell #. I told her I am here if she needs me. I am also planning on stopping by the hospital as soon as I can get away. Do you know their last name? I will need to know to find them in the hopistal.

Thanks again,
Pat

Trixi ~

My mama heart aches for deanna and her jacob...... we are praying for them!

As for the homeschool group ~ don't lose heart...... we too came from an area that had a wonderful homeschool group ~ it was a dream in many ways.... wonderful children, gifted leaders, and very like minded families........

We came here and there are many homeschool families in our church ~ but we have little in common and after the first few activities I knew that this was not for me or for my kids....... for the same reasons you expressed.......needless to say we have not engaged with the group......... I just saw some things that concerned me within the children........

I hope you find something that works out for you all.

Blessings~

“I want to know one thing,” said John Wesley, “—the way to heaven: how to land safe on that happy shore. God himself has condescended to teach the way. He hath written it down in a book. O give me that book! At any price, give me the book of God! I have it: here is knowledge enough for me. Let me be a man of one book.”
