Can we get a homestead drumroll please.....

Here it is, the first egg on the Spencer Family Homestead.

I have to say this was an amazingly beautiful site for us.  It came from one of our Rhode Island Reds.  She laid it in the hay in the barn.  Not exactly where we wanted it, but we will take them any way we can get them.  Now, just to wait on the rest of the flock.  We have ended up with 7 hens and 4 roosters.  We will keep 2 roosters, the Auracana and the California White.  Lord willing, we will use them this spring to incubate some baby chicks.  The other 2 will make a nice pot of soup this winter.LOL

It is a wonderful thing when we reap the reward of our hard work. Caring for these animals is so rewarding! I should have taken a picture of our "first" egg! Great idea!!!!

How is the moving coming?

Your garden sounds great. I so hope that I can have a small one next year.
