Garden Plans

Last years garden was a huge success. However, I am down to my last 3 jars of tomatoes and have very few peas left in the freezer. So yesterday, DH and I got out the pad, pen, and seed catalogs. We will be expanding the garden by about 5 rows. We will not be planting as much okra and peppers. Also, we will not be planting corn. I will be buying my corn at the farmer's market. We planted 23 tomatoes last year and I will be planting 30 tomatoe plants this year. We hope to plant many more squash and zuchini plants. We also plan to plant about 3 times as many peas. We will be doing bush lima beans, bush green beans, and pink eyed cow peas. We have our seed order all written out and know all I have to do is call it in!!!!
DH will be starting the seeds in the little seed green houses. We spent most of the day yesterday moving manure piles out to the garden so that DH can till it into the ground. We have alot more work to do but the weather has been so nice that I can't help but get excited. I hope this year to put up about twice as much of everything. We ran out of pickles quite a while back. I now have a better idea of how much we need and how much I need to grow in order to supply our needs. I love gardening and canning. I also hope to get a sealing freezer bag system this year. I have already gotten a dehydrator that I hope to use often this year.
Garden List
Squash(crookneck and straightneck)
Zuchinni
Moon & Stars Watermelon
Tomatoes (several different varieties)
Okra
Peppers
Pink eyed cow peas
Lima Beans
Green Beans
Cucumbers
Marigolds
Sunflowers
So far so good... We will also be picking up a few things at the CoOp.
Blessings,
Trixi

sounds like a great plan. I have always wanted to start seeds at home, but I havn't been brave enough yet.

Sounds wonderful. How big are you planning on making your garden? We are slowly collecting seeds, but I am still unsure of how large we need to make the garden. We are a family of 8, 6 of which are hungry growing boys.
Also how do you do the Lima beans? Richard loves them-I don't, but he really wants to try them but I am not sure what you need to do, well really I guess I need to know once they are picked.
Would love to see your homestead and how you have it all worked out. Since we have about the same amount of land.
Blessings,
Debi

“I want to know one thing,” said John Wesley, “—the way to heaven: how to land safe on that happy shore. God himself has condescended to teach the way. He hath written it down in a book. O give me that book! At any price, give me the book of God! I have it: here is knowledge enough for me. Let me be a man of one book.”
