Being Fruitful and multiplying...

I am up late because I have a cough that when I lay down just goes nuts.... Anyway, I got to thinking about something my DH said Sunday. I did not go to church Sunday, as I was fighting off this cold. DH came home and told me a very interesting analogy.... He said that you have to have atleast 3 children to be fruitful and multiply. And, those 3 children must also have children. Gen. 9:1 commands that we be fruitful and multiply. If we only have 2, those 2 are just replacements for us. I found this very interesting. We would love to have more but so far 3 is what we have and I am very content with that. However, we are surrounded by very large families. I'm not talking 6 or 7 (that is small in our church), we have dear friends with 10 and 13. I love the dynamics of these families and while some people are thinking Oh, My, I am thinking what a Blessing. I don't believe it is easy but if done well these large families can be an amazing thing. I have seen it!!!
Behold, children are a gift of the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one's youth. How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them; They will not be ashamed when they speak with their enemies in the gate.
Psalm 127:3-5
This is a promise.
Blessings,
Trixi

We had 3 kids in four years..........and then stopped.
Consequences to sin.
I am so thankful for the 3 kids I have, their health, their life. But if I knew then, what I know now...........there would have been many more little foot steps in this home than there are today :(
Pray hard.

We have had 10 children in 13 years, and I have learned first hand that they are a blessing...and you learn so much with each new little one...

Interesting thought :o) I had never really thought about it in that way -- 2 being a replacement, 3 being the fruitful & multiplying part. hmmm....
How many children are too many? At what point does God's blessing become too much and not welcome anymore? If there was a tiny church with a small income each month, and suddenly brought increase to the body, would the pastor tell the newcomers they could only come back if there were enough money in the treasury, or enough workers in the nursery, or enough coat hooks in the foyer? Neither should we base acceptance of God's blessings on whether we can supply, or rather God can.
That is our favorite saying for folks who claim they can't afford more children (not that you said that at all....this just popped into my head while reading here)

I agree totally with the God supplying part. We would absolutely welcome more blessings in our home. I pray that we have more. However, I am not going to dwell on that part as much as just being content with the number God has blessed us with so far.

A Full Quiver

Biblically speaking, a full quiver was six arrows. Not that I think that we should be limiting how many children we have--God is quite capable of opening and closing wombs.

“I want to know one thing,” said John Wesley, “—the way to heaven: how to land safe on that happy shore. God himself has condescended to teach the way. He hath written it down in a book. O give me that book! At any price, give me the book of God! I have it: here is knowledge enough for me. Let me be a man of one book.”
