Why we homeschool part 2....

You can read the first part of our story here....
Well, as DD#1 class began to dwindle, she became more and more unhappy at school.  DD #2 would finish her school work at 10:00 A.M. and then come in my classroom for the rest of the day.  DS was already in my classroom and was struggling with the rigidness of the curriculum.(remember square peg round hole)  Anyway, all of this dissatisfaction was leading me to be very dissatisfied.  We had looked around for DD#1 to go to another school but really didn't want her away from me all day.  At this time, we had been going to a church which had a few homeschooling families.  So by now I had atleast been exposed to the idea of homeschooling.  I never thought it could be a choice for me but I did atleast know something about homeschooling.  DH and I began to pray.  It's funny how God works.  He just kept putting these great homeschooling families in our path.  I was so amazed by the children and the relationships these families were building with one another.  DH coached our youngest daughter's soccer team and I began a great relationship with a homeschooling family who had 2 daughters on the team.  I always felt too inadequate to teach my children all the way through and this family really helped to ease my anxiety.  More and more we were leaning toward homeschooling.  We never really came out and said it, until I was home with my son (sick again).  DH went to pick the girls up from school and the principal asked him what we were going to do the next year.  DH said it out loud.  We are going to Homeschool.  Well, we were locked in then.  God had answered in a mighty way.  I still have moments of inadequacy but the benefits far out weigh those.  At that time I had not really searched Biblically why we should homeschool or why I should just be home period.  We just knew God was leading us home.  Since then, I have some very firm Biblically Foundations as to why we homeschool.  Starting with Deuteronomy 6:6-12
I don't know how I can teach them when  we sit in our house, walk through the day, when they rise up, and when they lie down, if I am not here with them.
Also.. 1 Timothy 1:5
If the goal of our instruction is Love, I am the only one who can guarantee that my children are getting this instruction.
There are many more but this is a good place to start.
We have been blessed beyond measure from this decision.  My children have a relationship with each other that they would not otherwise have.  They are well behaved and thoughtful.  They want to serve and they love the Lord.  Another, great benefit is that we are all so much healthier.  I can trully take care of my family now.  I'm not saying it is not hard at times but I would not go back for anything.
The way we came to this is one of the big reasons why I try not to judge someone about where they are on there spiritual journey.  We don't all get it at once.  I would love to be able to go back and be the homemaker that I am now from the beginning but that's not the way it works.  God's timing is not our own.  DH and I have come full circle.  We were both unsaved when we got married (that's a whole nother story LOL) and now we are two God serving, homeschooling, parents.  God is so good.  I still have a lot to learn and I am loving the journey.

I would love to here your stories....
Blessings,
Trixi

Thank you for sharing your story. I loved reading it and getting to know you a little better.

We seem to have a few things in common. I would love to visit here more with you. My husband and I also were not saved when we got married, but we thought we were. And that also is another story.

I am glad you are here and I look forward to sharing with you more.

I have enjoyed reading your journey to homeschooling and may just have to share my own. This is our second year homeschooling after several years in public school. I agree with you about the blessings- especially in the kids and their relationships with each other. My six year old son says that are family is lucky because we all live with our best friends.

“I want to know one thing,” said John Wesley, “—the way to heaven: how to land safe on that happy shore. God himself has condescended to teach the way. He hath written it down in a book. O give me that book! At any price, give me the book of God! I have it: here is knowledge enough for me. Let me be a man of one book.”
