Why and How did we come to homeschooling?.....

I took this topic from Amy over at Home Sweet Simple Home.  She has written about her journey to homeschool and I have really enjoyed reading it.  So I thought I would also post ours.  I would love to say that we are one of those families who never even entertained doing anything else.  That's not us.  My oldest DD went to daycare from the time she was 6 wks. old.  She stayed with a very, good, Christian friend of mine.  Who at the time was staying home with her new baby.  We had tried out a couple of people before her and were not happy.  She was a God send for us, as I was not yet convicted about being the Keeper of My Home.  I was finishing college at the time.  When we had our middle DD, I again went back to work.  Middle DD was very sickly as a baby.  She had tubes put in her ears at 8 months old.  At this time I ended up coming home and keeping other children in my home.  My oldest DD was preschool age by this time and she was going to the local church preschool part time.  Homeschooling was not even a word we knew or entertained.  I had a good friend who taught kindergarten at the local public school and it was just a given that she would go there.  I really enjoyed keeping other children and being at home with DD#2.  On schedule, DD#1 started kindergarten and actually had a pretty good year.  We had a few incidents but nothing major until Christmas break came.  When she came home for Christmas break, we started hearing of more and more things going on in the class room and out.  They were just little things but we knew that as she got older it would only get worse.  I talked DH into leaving her until the end of the year.  He would have pulled her right then.  We ended up choosing to put her in a local Christian School.  At the time, the school only consisted of about 60 students in grades K4-8th.  It was perfect.  They had 2 grades combined.  DD#1 has always been advanced so it worked beautifully for her.  By now, we have had our son.  I stayed at home for 2 more years.  DD#2 went to preschool 2 days a week.  It was working fine for all of us.  When DD#1 was in 3rd grade and DD#2 was in Kindergarten, I began to teach at the Christian School.  We had a great first year, altogether.  My DS was in Preschool and occasionally came to school with me for the day.  Keep in mind this is a very small school.  By now there is probably 80 students in the school.  The next year DS came to the Christian School for K4.  This is where the saga begins.  He had a good year academically.  However, he stayed sick with tonsilitis.  He was also a little more rambunctious than our girls.  I felt like I was constantly on top of him.  Expecting him to be perfect.  Basically, I was trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.  He needs to school in periods of time, instead of being a little soldier in a desk all day.  His attention span is about 30 minutes at a time.  This is the case even now.  We were struggling to make it through this year.  Also, my DD#1's class had dwindled until she was the only girl in her class of four......
To be continued later ....
I hope you have enjoyed our story.
Blessings,
Trixi

I am enjoying your story. We also did not start off homeschooling. IF I have the time, I might tell our story today also, at least start our story.

I am planning my "day trip" to Ada's maybe on Thursday or Friday. As you know, our weather is not to great today. Waiting to see what is coming.

“I want to know one thing,” said John Wesley, “—the way to heaven: how to land safe on that happy shore. God himself has condescended to teach the way. He hath written it down in a book. O give me that book! At any price, give me the book of God! I have it: here is knowledge enough for me. Let me be a man of one book.”
