What fun we had yesterday. My dear friend Deanna told me about this place in Bethel Springs, Tn. named Ada's. Well, I'll start by saying that I needed wheat berries and there was a mix up on my CoOp order. Long story short, they did not get ordered. So DH and I decided to go up and check this place out. It took us about 2 hours and 15 minutes to get there. So I was really hoping that it would turn out to be something good. It was this little country type store. I walked in the door and turned to my DH and said," I am in heaven." LOL. They had all the grains, spices, meals, fruits, jellies, herbs, candies, cook books, cooking utensils, lunch meats, cheeses, and so on and so on, that you could ever imagine. We spent an hour just looking. Keep in mind that this is a small store. On top of that, it was just out in the middle of nowhere. I love rural life!!! We had 2 of those small baskets(like express lane baskets) full. We could have gotten more but I really need to make a list. We are definitely going to make a trip back very soon. One thing that I really liked was that I could get a 50# bag of wheat or a 2# bag. So I decided to get 8# bags of all the different kinds. We will make loaves of bread out of all the different kinds of berries and see what we like best. I have a good friend who mixes hard red and hard white. Now, we can see what our family likes best. I also got an 8# bag of evaporated cane juice, muscadine jelly (DD's favorite and I have already used all of mine), pinto beans, corn meal, and last but not least some candy for the DC. It was such a neat place, thank you for telling me about it, Deanna.
Blessings,
Trixi

I looked up Ada's from my home and I am only 2 hours from there. I am planning a trip as we speak.
I am so thankful for you sharing this with us.
Pat
You are so right about the "nothing around".....

But you never know. Maybe on my trip this week, I will "look out" for a small dinner or place to eat and we could meet for a "road-side" snack after the drive.
You never know!!

LOL....Dewey told me I shouldn't have said much about Ada's to you until he could talk to your husband and let him know the facts....you ca't go without finding more than you thought you'd find and spending more money than you thought you would :o)
That aside -- amazing store, isn't it? Bethel Springs/Finger is smaller than a dot on most maps, but what a treasure there in Ada's! Just remember before the long drive next time, give them a call and check on availability of things you might want in larger quantities. I have had them order in the bags of bread flour or wheat berries special just to make sure they have them on hand.
Did you get any cookbooks? My favorite so far from there is the Back to Basics one -- simple, down-home, everyday cooking :o) Not so much the healthier things I'm working toward, but nothing weird and off the wall with spices I've never heard of :o)
I'm glad you found things you were looking for :o)
Deanna

“I want to know one thing,” said John Wesley, “—the way to heaven: how to land safe on that happy shore. God himself has condescended to teach the way. He hath written it down in a book. O give me that book! At any price, give me the book of God! I have it: here is knowledge enough for me. Let me be a man of one book.”
