This is the day that the Lord has made.

We still have computer issues....  Lord willing we will be getting a new one next week.  Anyway, I am at the inlaws and thought I would go ahead and update.  I do have to say, I have missed reading everyone's posts but you sure can get a lot more done without a computer.  We have had a very busy last two weeks.  We processed 3 roosters, last week.  They are now in the freezer.  They will be good in dumplings or chicken spaghetti.  We also went on a big family camping trip to Tishomingo State Park last weekend.  We hiked in the foothills for hours and miles.  It was so much fun.  My son said over and over how much he loved this family.  The time with these children just keeps flying by.  I can't tell you how sobering a feeling that is.

As for school, our homeschool is going very well.  I am more laid back than ever.  I focus mainly on the reading, writing, and math skills.  I think if we do tons of reading we can not go wrong.  My son struggles with Math facts but we are just trying to do them everyday.  I think repitition is the key.  The biggest thing I am having to do is pray for patience.  They don't get it over night but they will get it!!!  My oldest daughter is taking Spanish with the homeschool group and loving it.  My two daughter's are also taking piano and a sewing/bible study class.  I am hoping I will also pick up a few things from the sewing class.

The year is just flying by.  We have our winter garden going and it is looking pretty good.  We still have okra coming in like crazy and one tomatoe plant left that is still making.  We planted lettuce, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, onions, and mustard greens.  We need some rain but her in N. Ms. that is next to impossible at this point.LOL.

I hope everyone else is doing well.  God Bless.

Blessings,

Trixi

I wish we had met up over the weekend. I had hoped to -- thought we'd just drive through yelling your name until we found you ;o)
I totally agree with you on the h'schooling. Bible, Math and Language Arts work for the core. We are going to stay on our bunny trail of science and history I think, and focus on reading lots and lots of good solid books on those topics that come up.
I am hoping to plan in some time for piano lessons this year, but then again I think that every year and the Lord hasn't brought that plan to fruition just yet.
Hope we can get together soon.

2 things to say

Posted by Patti on Saturday, October 21, 2006 at 01:24 - Link

First of all, yes, you can sure get alot done without a computer. It tends to be a timestealer in my life, and I have had to severely restrict the amount of time I spend on the thing. I think that is why I like the Pioneer era so much....no TV, no computer, less things to distract us.
Also, as far as homeschooling, I just wanted to encourage you by saying I agree...you can't go wrong doing alot of reading. If your child knows how to read and has a love for learning, then anything they will need to know for their future, they will be able to learn when they need to. I often hear parents say that they are afraid to homeschool because they think they will leave gaps in their child's education. I heard someone say at a homeschool conference (Zan Tyler, I think), that you WILL leave gaps. All teachers will leave gaps in a child's education. There is no way that any person can ever teach EVERY thing that someone must know. But, she said, if you have trained your child to love to read and to learn, then they will be able to put their mind to other things that they need and want to learn. (That is a very poor paraphrase, but I hope you understand my meaning.)
Blessings,
Patti

“I want to know one thing,” said John Wesley, “—the way to heaven: how to land safe on that happy shore. God himself has condescended to teach the way. He hath written it down in a book. O give me that book! At any price, give me the book of God! I have it: here is knowledge enough for me. Let me be a man of one book.”
