| This is the day that the Lord has made. |
I finally made laundry detergent. My sweet DH helped me do this yesterday. He did most of it, as he really is getting into this kind of thing. I surpervised and got the water ready for him. We used the recipe from Crystal Miller's site over at the Family Homestead. Thank you Crystal. It worked perfectly. I did substitute a whole bar of pure ivory soap for 1/3 bar of Fels Naptha. I can't find Fels Naptha where we live so I decided it would be cheaper to just use Ivory. Lord willing, we will be making our own soap also soon and can use it. Nevertheless, it gelled up almost immediately and looks great. I am so excited to do my laundry today. It's looking overcast but I will be hanging laundry out regardless. It's been so long since we have had a substantial rain I would have to see it to believe it.
Blessings,
Trixi

Yeah for making the laundry soap! How did yours turn out? Is it strictly a gel? Mine is a very watery gel. I've wondered how other people's turn out. I have just made my second batch. Isn't it fun to save!?

Trust me, I've looked high and low...Fels is nowhere to be found. I have my mom keeping her eyes open back North where I was able to find it yet. There are a few Mennonite communities that carry it still, and some outrageously priced online sites... :o( Have you checked around the communities at Pontotoc? That and maybe up into Tennessee, around Etheridge...that's the only place I think we might have a shot at finding it.
I substitute Kirks Castile in my detergent mix...but I do like the Fels better...and it's a great pre-treater.
Wonder why Dial Corp. quite marketing it?
Deanna
Here's some online Fels...

Fels Naptha bar soap is sometimes hard to find. It can be ordered through the Dial Soap web site if you cannot find it locally; 12 Units $15.00, Case of 24 is $30.00, plus postage. http://www.thedialstore.com/product_search.cfm?search_text=all

“I want to know one thing,” said John Wesley, “—the way to heaven: how to land safe on that happy shore. God himself has condescended to teach the way. He hath written it down in a book. O give me that book! At any price, give me the book of God! I have it: here is knowledge enough for me. Let me be a man of one book.”
