A Happy Dog
Posted in Pictures
|
I think I must have the happiest dog in the world right now - NOT!!!!! A few weeks ago Jake was outside playing with the other two dogs on the property. There is a squirrel that loves to torment the dogs by chittering at them from the safety of the crabapple trees - Jake has decided that he is going to learn how to climb those trees so that he can get to the squirrel. It is actually quite funny to watch as he jumps up over and over and over again trying to get up into the tree.
What isn't funny is how scratched up his belly gets from landing on the underbrush around the crabapple trees. He managed to get a couple of really good scratches right where his back legs attach to his belly - on both sides. I wasn't to worried about them because he was keeping the scratches clean, however because he was licking them so much they became chapped .... now he won't leave them alone because they are driving him bonkers.
A friend of mine loaned me an Elizabethan collar for him and when I put it on him I make sure that I rub some vaseline on the chapped parts of his belly so that it will hopefully help to heal him up. I managed to get a picture of him today - he didn't seem very impressed with that either, lol:
Doesn't he just look sooooooo happy? Well, at least it is preventing him from licking the scratches all the time. He isn't able to wear it at night because when he wears it in his kennel he can't turn around so it gets taken off at the end of the day and is put on again in the morning.

Update on my thumb
Posted in Pictures
|
Yesterday I had posted how I had cut my thumb - today I had a shower and the band-aid needed changing because of it. So, I had Charlotte do the First Aid work for me (which she was quite willing to do, lol).
First we took the band-aid off, all of us were quite surprised that it didn't look worse, lol. I think it actually looks more like a bruise than a cut - however, I do know that it was cut because I saw it bleeding:
After I had taken the picture she put some medicated ointment on my thumb and then put on a fresh band-aid. Thankfully it isn't throbbing today but if it gets bumped it sure lets me know that it's there, lol.

This & That
Posted in Pictures
|
Tonight the kids had some friends over, we were having a wiener roast and while we were waiting for the fire to be ready for cooking the kids would jump on the trampoline. I snapped this picture purely by accident - it totally reminds me of something from the Matrix:
We are going to be going on holidays next month and my Mom is in desperate need of a new camera. The one she has is not a very good digital camera, you can't zoom in on what you are taking a picture of and it doesn't show the image of what you are taking a picture of on the screen on the back of the camera ... once you have snapped your picture it gives you a very brief glimpse of it. Also, it isn't the most user friendly camera in the world - so, today I had Don cut open my piggy bank and I headed into Wal-Mart to buy my Mom a new camera (he pitched in on this purchase, too - thanks, Honey ):
Don't you just love the color of it? I figured this way it wouldn't get mixed up with our silver camera's that we will be taking on holidays with us.
Since I picked up the camera for her, I decided that maybe I better get her a memory card as well:
Okay, not sure why that picture is sideways - I did straighten it out before I uploaded them. Oh, well - you can still tell what it is supposed to be.
We'll be dropping off the camera and memory card tomorrow when we go down to visit - I really hope she likes it and that she finds it easier to use than the one that she has now.

Iced Coffee Syrup
≈ coffee
≈ water
≈ sugar
***IMPORTANT***: you need a percolator style coffee pot to make this.
DO NOT use a drip style coffee maker to make this syrup!!!!!
* Make one pot of coffee, then discard the grounds.
* Add fresh grounds, percolate again, with the coffee as liquid, not fresh water.
* Do this three times.
* To the finished coffee mixture, add one half the amount of sugar (if you end up with 3 cups coffee mixture, add 1 1/2 cups sugar).
* Mix until sugar is completely dissolved.
* To use: add 2 - 3 tablespoons of syrup to a 10 oz glass of milk, stir to mix and enjoy.
