Wondering

Have any of you ever noticed that when your spouse is away things seem to happen around the house that normally don't happen when your spouse is home?
Here is a prime example: Don had been called out to help out with a rig blow-out in another Province, in the first few days after he had be gone things seemed to be going really well. Then at Day 7 I think it was, the furnace stopped blowing any air at all, it would merely make the sound that it was warming up and that was all and because it was a very cold and windy day we brought in a space heater and turned the oven on to help generate some heat in the house - other than those two things going there was no heat. So, when my Beloved called me to give me an update on how things were going on his end, he casually asked "So, how are things with you?" to which I sweetly replied "Do you really want to know?????"
When I had explained to him everything that was going on his first response was "Call Steve". Thankfully we have some very wonderful friends that, as soon as they heard what was happening, told me they would be out in the morning to see what could be done about it - I didn't even have to ask if they would do this, I simply told them what was happening with the furnace and the offer was there without any hesitation at all. Wouldn't the world be a much better place if we were all blessed with friends like this?
So, long story short - our furnace is shot, for the time being. It needs a new squirrel cage and, if I remember correctly, a new motor. The parts should be in on Monday and then we will hopefully have heat in our home again (without the aid of space heaters ).
Oh, yes, I totally forgot to mention about the screen door - the other day when it was soooooooo incredibly windy, the wind caught the screen door (because it hadn't been latched properly from when the dog had been let in) and whipped it open .... when this happened, it ripped the screws out of the door frame that holds that air shock for the screen door (the one that is supposed to make sure that the screen door closes).
Oh, well - I have discovered a few blessings through this time (1) the beauty of having friends there when a need arises - without even having the request for help verbalized to them. (2) the weather has not been -40 (thank you Lord for keeping the weather nice during this time). (3) I really, really, really appreciate all that Don does around our home to keep things running smoothly for us and (4) how well the kids are handling this latest adventure in our lives - they truly are amazing kids .

Bought a new toy

This weekend was definitely a busy one, Josh turned 13 on Friday and he invited a bunch of his friends over for a sleepover to help him celebrate his birthday. Friday night (which is when the sleepover was) we took Josh and 5 of his friends to the local swimming pool for Public Swim - they all looked like they were enjoying themselves soooooo much .... especially on the rock climbing wall that leans out over the deep end, one of Josh's friends got to the top of it.
Saturday I was at work and then we took the boys home after I got home. At our last stop we were invited for supper (the Mom phoned Saturday morning to invite us). We had a wonderful supper (baked chicken, homemade fries, veggies and then ice cream for dessert) and also had a great visit - we ended up staying out very late, but we all had a really good time.
Sunday we needed to go to the fabric store to see if we could find some material to make new neckers for Scouts - the store we went to didn't have the right color so we decided to go and check out the Second Hand store (we didn't find any there either). However, while we were wandering around the store I spied the purse section - I wasn't looking for a new purse, I just like checking them out. Anyway, while I was over looking at the purses I saw something out of the corner of my eye, it was a Fisher Price Weaving Loom. Don and I looked in the box and the only thing that was missing was two of the knobs - it was pretty reasonably priced so I bought it. I figured it would be a good loom to introduce us to weaving - the loom was very, very easy to put together (even with the two missing knobs). I got it set up last night and started using it right away, here are some pictures of what I have accomplished so far:

So far, I'm really enjoying this little machine and I'm looking forward to seeing what all I can make with it.

Wonderful supper
Posted in Family Life
|
Last night we had a wonderful supper and it was really easy to make, too (gotta love that, lol).
Don made some home-made french fries, I made a pot of chili and Josh grated up a bunch of marble cheese for us. Josh opted to just have fries, Charlotte and Don each had their chili in a separate bowl on the side and I put the chili on top of my fries, then sprinkled (okay I added more than just a sprinkle, lol) the cheese on top of that. I then put it into the microwave to really melt the cheese on the chili. Mmmmmmmmm
There is a restaurant in the little town where we live that occasionally serves chili cheese fries as a lunch special and is it ever good. It's been a while since I have had this so it was a really wonderful treat - that and Don makes the best french fries.

Iced Coffee Syrup

***IMPORTANT***: you need a percolator style coffee pot to make this.
DO NOT use a drip style coffee maker to make this syrup!!!!!
* Make one pot of coffee, then discard the grounds.
* Add fresh grounds, percolate again, with the coffee as liquid, not fresh water.
* Do this three times.
* To the finished coffee mixture, add one half the amount of sugar (if you end up with 3 cups coffee mixture, add 1 1/2 cups sugar).
* Mix until sugar is completely dissolved.
* To use: add 2 - 3 tablespoons of syrup to a 10 oz glass of milk, stir to mix and enjoy.
