Smelly Surprise Posted in Family Life
We have discovered that our dog, Jake, likes to go into the raspberry bush and eat the raspberries - he will literally pick the berries off the bush and eat them, lol. I've noticed him going into the raspberry bush a few time and when I don't see him in there, his red stained white paws tell me where he has been, lol.
Last night my cousin and her 3 kids stopped over for a short visit - it was wonderful to see her, especially since this only happens at family reunions, lol. I really need to take a road trip and go and visit her and her family. 
After they had left we let Jake out for a run, we live on about 3 acres (give or take) so this isn't usually a problem. This time it was ... A month or so ago, Don was given a camperette that the kids use as a play/club house, he set it on top of a wooden base that was originally from and old wooden grain bin. Before the camperette was put on this base, Jake was able to crawl under it and chase the cats - we think that having the camperette sitting on top of it may have settled the wooden base and he is no longer able to crawl under it.
Last night he was running around the wooden base whining and barking, trying to get underneath of it but he's just to big to fit under it now. The kids went over to see what he was after and Charlotte looked at Josh and said "Uggggg, do you smell that??????". I was in the house peeling potatoes for supper, through the open window I asked her what was going on "I think there's a skunk out here!!!". I called for Don and let him know what she had said, he goes out and sure enough there was a skunk under the wooden base - it had sprayed at Jake but because the base is so close to the ground it was unable to fully raise its tail and give a good spray (not sure if it sprayed itself). Jake did not get a full dose, nevertheless he was chained up out back of the house because he had just a bit of skunk smell on him. This morning when we got up he smelled just like he normally does - Charlotte was quite relieved about this because she likes to wrestle with him (thankfully he is not a delicate dog that needs to be coddled all the time).
Anyway, we think that Jake originally found the skunk in the raspberry bushes and it ran under the wooden base to protect itself. Today we are not letting Jake run loose just in case he comes across the skunk again and gets a full dose spray!!!!

Oh My. I almost had the same thing happen about a month ago. My dog likes to chase cats as well. And sometimes in the middle of the night he wants out to chase a cat and sometimes I have to give into him because he just won't give up.
Well about a month ago he was really wanting out at like 1am and I got up and went to let him out. However, luckily I had left the kitchen window open and I got a whiff of the skunk just as I was about to open the door. Thank God, I didn't open it and although my dog was upset he didn't get to go out he wasn't sprayed.
I find the skunks are pretty brave around here. Earlier this summer we were at my husband's cousins house have a BBQ. It was late, and we were sitting around with the kids when all of a sudden we saw a skunk come out from behind the shed. It just sat there and stared at us. Didn't run or anything.
Well I'm glad your dog didn't get too much of a spray.

Iced Coffee Syrup
≈ coffee
≈ water
≈ sugar
***IMPORTANT***: you need a percolator style coffee pot to make this.
DO NOT use a drip style coffee maker to make this syrup!!!!!
* Make one pot of coffee, then discard the grounds.
* Add fresh grounds, percolate again, with the coffee as liquid, not fresh water.
* Do this three times.
* To the finished coffee mixture, add one half the amount of sugar (if you end up with 3 cups coffee mixture, add 1 1/2 cups sugar).
* Mix until sugar is completely dissolved.
* To use: add 2 - 3 tablespoons of syrup to a 10 oz glass of milk, stir to mix and enjoy.
