Aren't kids amazing
Posted in Family Life
We have been reading the series "The Island" by Gordon Korman, it's a really good set of books about 6 kids that end up on a deserted island after the boat they were on sunk.
Today Josh has not been feeling the greatest (he is getting a cold, again) so he is stretched out on one of the couches in our livingroom and Charlotte is on the other one reading to him. I had been reading the book to the both of them but my throat got sooooooo dry that I had to stop - Charlotte volunteered to continue reading the book to her brother.
I have discovered something from listening to her read to him - she is very good at it, she puts emphasis where it should be, different tones for the different characters and when it starts to get suspenseful she changes her reading to accommodate that as well.
I just went out to check Josh's temperature - we have one of those thermometers that you put against the temporal artery, push the button and in about 1 second you have the persons temperature. I like this style of thermometer better than the ones that you put under the armpit or even the ones that you put in the ear - this one is less invasive and if the person is sleeping, it doesn't wake them up or disturb them in any way (it is also the same style of one that they used at the Cancer Hospital that my Dad was at). Oh, and Josh has a fever - the thermometer gives about 10 short beeps to alert you that there is a fever (basically if the temperature is over 100˚F then it will beep), they aren't loud beeps ... just enough to alert you.

Iced Coffee Syrup
≈ coffee
≈ water
≈ sugar
***IMPORTANT***: you need a percolator style coffee pot to make this.
DO NOT use a drip style coffee maker to make this syrup!!!!!
* Make one pot of coffee, then discard the grounds.
* Add fresh grounds, percolate again, with the coffee as liquid, not fresh water.
* Do this three times.
* To the finished coffee mixture, add one half the amount of sugar (if you end up with 3 cups coffee mixture, add 1 1/2 cups sugar).
* Mix until sugar is completely dissolved.
* To use: add 2 - 3 tablespoons of syrup to a 10 oz glass of milk, stir to mix and enjoy.
