Square Foot Gardening
Good Morning! I am wondering if there is anyone out there who has tried square foot gardening. We're urban homesteaders and I have read about the high yield in a small space that you can reap from this method. We have a decent sized yard for being in town, but if I had my way the entire thing would be a garden not leaving much space for my 3 little ones to play. I'd love to hear from anyone who has insight on this method...or other suggestions for me. This will be my first garden EVER as this home we are moving to IN TWO WEEKS!!!! will be our first home.
Thanks! Have a great day!

Square Foot Gardening

Hi there! I've done square foot gardening! I used to live in a fairly small suburban yard and wanted a garden. I actually did a combo of square ffot and "cubed foot" gardening (from a book by that name). We built 8'x4' boxes from untreated wood. Sort of dug up the ground a bit where we were going to lay them (though you wouldn't have to) and had a black dirt with fertilizer stuff dumped on our driveway which we hauled back to the garden to fill in the beds. It was so worth it starting with good dirt and the raised beds were so nice to take care of. We had 3 of these beds with walkways with bricks between them. The other thing we did was used trellis material to grow things up. We grew beans, cucumbers, gourds, mourning glories and tomatoes on the trellises. This uses your space great as you only have to dig a trench where you plant the seeds. Anyways, maybe I'll make a blog about my garden for you in a day ot 2 and add some pics. The trellis was kind of a play house for the kids as well but I'm typing 1-handed while feeding a baby so don't have time to describe right now.
Where are your relatives from? We used to live in the Twin Cities, but are now in Northern WI. I also have young ones. My oldest is now 8. We have 6 kids now. Anyways, I'd better go. Good luck and e-mail me or check out my blog if you have ? or want to chat!
