Soapmaking Quandary

Well, I thought I had come up with a wonderful creation for soap molds.  My hubby bought me a 3 in diameter PVC pipe.  We cut it into 15 in sections and capped off one end.  The molds are pretty slick inside, so I didn't think I would have to line them or grease them (mistake #1).  So I put the caps into the ends of the molds and started filling.  Well, the mold started leaking around the edges of the cap (mistake #2).  I thought to myself, next time I will cut out some heavy duty plastic wrap and put on top of the cap before I push it into place, to give it a tighter fit.  I then picked up the mold to try to push in the cap more and the whole cap fell out (mistake #3) pouring soap all over the counter and floor!  I was able to salvage most of it, put it back in and the rest of the process went pretty smoothly.  Here we are 24 hours later, and the soap has set up so nicely.  Only now I am realizing I should have greased or lined these molds, cause the soap isn't budging.  I have taken a long metal skewer and tried to go around the edges and hubby is now banging them outside.  I think I may have to dig the soap our and do a rebatch...not fun.

I love being a first generation homesteader!  How else would I get to have so many "learning moments"!!!

Oh my!

I have "been there done that." LOL!!!! I agree that part of the Joy of our success here on the farm is because we have expeirenced the "failed attempts with grace." :-) You are blessed and I look forward to reading of your success soon!!!

~~Thank you so much for your encouragement! I did finally get the soap out in one piece. I stuck the molds into the freezer (although I have read that you aren't suppose to freeze soap while it is curing) and once they were frozen, the soap slipped right out. The molds did make beautiful round bars of soap. I will just have to make a few "adjustments" for the next batch!
Blessings,
Jasmine
