Tomorrow I'm going in to a meeting with our School District Superintendent to tell them why I want to homeschool. I missed the deadline. I feel so stupid for that already. I just had no idea there was one. I had several people tell me they NEVER contacted the school to give them their "letter of intent" and it was purely optional. I now know that's WRONG! And really bad. I missed the homeschooling deadline, and now I have to go meet with the school and discuss it with them. I just hope there isn't some way they can force me to put my son in school. I really don't think there is. I just wish I had more experience with this stuff so I felt more confindent going in there and declaring myself. When I read that the first year of homeschooling was full of trials and errors, I didn't expect the FIRST error to happen before I even got started! If anyone reads this and has input, it would be grately appreciated!!

I do not know what to say as we in Calfornia do not have to do that. But I do love homeschooling!! I have home schooled for soon to be 12 years. I would not trade that for anything. You get so see your kids grow and learn but not in just school , in life. You get to see them grow and learn in everyday things even with out doing school work. You are making the right choice for them and you. Keep that in mind when you talk to the people, You are the one who knows what is best for them. You will be in my prayers.

Well, if they force you to send your child to school, you can one day, then take your child out the next day. It really is a stupid ordeal. I think the deadline is for the "numbers" to be in and to make everyone accountable for the coming year.

But saying that, you can take your child out at anytime and decide to homeschool. (at least in our state of Iowa). So, it would be silly for them to force you to send your child to school... as that just puts a wall up between the school and you.

Hope all goes well for you. Hopefully they will be kind and understanding.

Here on the side of our little Arkansas mountain. Our family includes me, Allison, my husband Justin, my step daughters (14 yo twins) "Bert" and "Nic", our sons (6yo) "Si", and (3yo) "Roo". Next door are the in-laws Wendy and Dan. And between the two homes, we have 3 dogs and two gardens. We live next to a National Forrest so we see all sorts of wildlife. We love homeschooling, gardening, whole food cooking, quilting, crafting, and having bonfires!
