I wonder ....

• Saturday, April 19, 2008 - Loving my "job"

I really love my life!!! I love being a wife and mommy ....... & all that comes with those roles. I thoroughly enjoy cooking .... I enjoy seeing the satisfied looks on my family's faces when they're done eating. It's almost a love language for me. No one really *taught* me how to cook ...... but my mom once told me that the key to a good cook was not the ability to read & follow a recipe ....... but their ability to think outside the box & be creative. I love watching my children grow & learn .... from books & life experiences. Cooing, first words, first steps ..... all awesome!!! Cuddling on the couch with my hubby, to watch our favorite shows .... the greatest!!! Hearing him say, "I love you ......." still stops the world from spinning!!!

We need to buy an upright freezer!!! We are running out of room for the meals we prepare in advance.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

We've been talking about our upcoming move ..... we're really excited ..... but we know we have much to learn about owning land and livestock. We figure if we start small and slow, we'll learn a lot more than if we just rushed in to it. I'd like to master worming and chickens before we add cattle or goats. We'd also like to work on building some furniture .. cowboy style ........ rustic log furniture. Not sure how that will go over with how I'd like to decorate our bedroom though LOL Maybe we'll just make the furniture to sell? Hmmm .... only time will tell.

Do you use oat flour? Or some other uncommon flour? Do you use them in place of regular flour with out having to adapt recipes? Either way, I'd love to have your recipes if you're willing to share!

I use rye flour in my cooking. Like for fried chicken, chicken fried steak I even make gravey with the rye flour. Rye flour kind of give a bit of a nutty taste to everything. Hope this helps.God bless.mj

worms and chickens sound great! I've been trying to get our vermicomposting going, but it's hard to get it started! we just got a cupfull of worms from a friend, and I think that I need to invest in a real set of worms off the internet... where did you get yours?

about flour... we use a combination of 7 different flours (millet, rye, brown rice, barley, corn, oat groats, buckwheat). we use a little less than 1/2 of that in our recipes, then we add the other 1/2 wheat (red wheat, white wheat and spelt). Things are SO much more tasty than just plain wheat things! and they look so pretty too!!

Blessings,
Alex ;)

i meant to say... goats are actually really easy to take care of! we currently have 7 and they are work, but any animal is work!! We just milk them every morning and night and feed them. It's quite simple!

good luck with everything!

About Me

We are a family of 9 right now. Our dreams of homesteading have taken flight .... even if the plane is still sitting on the runway, at least we have flight plans. We home school, home church and run home businesses. Our favorite thing to do is spend time together <GASP> Yes, we actually enjoy each others company. Some times we just sit, chatting ... other times we're watching the races ..... at times we're reading books ..... and other times we're just playing with what ever we can find. This blog will be used to keep track of the journey we're on .... the journey of life ... I'll post about many things .... like ....... drama skits my children create, how to's of homesteading (or maybe the how-not-to's as I find them out), home school projects, lessons and findings, basic thoughts running through my brain ... and probably everything in between. I look forward to your wisdom, input & friendship.
