I wonder ....

Plans, plans .... so many plans to make. Plans for the garden, for the worm growin, for the food storage, for the huntin, maybe even plans to build a home .....
I am excited about everything going on in our lives. Once we get settled I'd like to take a quilting class at our local college. I'd also like some one to show me how to can foods. I can't imagine how much we could store if I'd learn to can. Oh, the excitement!!!

Do you love Scholastic books? I LOVE them so much & am thrilled that our home school group started getting the little fliers. I've been thinking about getting some new books for our home "library" & this gives me the perfect opportunity.

I have sooooooo much energy again. Cleaning, working, eating healthier, getting healthier (read = losing weight) does that for me. My children are having a hard time keeping up with me HAHA ..... gotta love those Supermom vitamins!!!

We love Scholastic also. Did you know they offer homeschool discounts? A member of our homeschool group is a rep (or whatever they are called) and we order through her.

I'm not a quilter, although "Country Wisdom and Know-How" has instructions on quilting that look pretty good.

Canning is not as difficult as you might think. I was very intimidated when I first started because recipes (especially with tomatoes) are so specific and stress not deviating from what is written. That coupled with a pressure canner and I was terrified! But it's not bad. Just give yourself plenty of time (there's no running to do another task while you are canning). It is an amazing thing to fill your shelves with beautifully colored jars full of your own produce!

"The Big Book of Preserving the Harvest" and Ball's Blue Book (you can find this one at Wal-Mart in season for about $6) are good ones. My "famous" blackberry jelly is made using the recipe inside the pectin box! Goes to show that homegrown ingredients make the taste difference.

I started canning things that only needed a hot water bath (syrups, IIRC most fruits can just have a hwb) and then worked my way up to using the pressure canner.

Hope this helps! Oh, and "The Encyclopedia of Country Living" is a wonderful basic resource for homesteading info.
