Homesteading: A Woman's Journey

Cooking Meatballs

Posted by Under the Oaks

Last night I made some meatballs. When I make meatballs I usually make several pounds at time. I make my meatballs with the same recipe as meatloaf and then make little balls to fry on the stove. Last night I decided to bake them in the oven. So after making all my little meatballs, they went into several pans with some space in between so they weren't touching. Then I added some water to the pans so they wouldn't stick to the bottom of the pans. (My mother in law taught me to put some water in the bottom of the pan when your making meatloaf so it won't get all hard on the bottom.) I baked them at 350 for a little bit till they were done. I was really impressed with how they turned out and I will be making them this way again. It was a lot easier than frying them on the stove and it took less time.

Have a wonderful day.

Monday at Home

Wow, December is already blowing in...literally here in Oklahoma. The wind is really howling today and the bitter windchills are keeping us all snuggled up in our warm sweaters and jackets.

We no longer have to wonder wether this baby will be a November or December baby....He better be a December baby! LoL. My due date is less than a week away, and amazingly, I feel no closer to going into labor than I did a week ago...in fact, I think I feel farther away because last week I was having a lot more contractions than I've been having the last several days. I just keep reminding myself that this baby will be here in God's time, and not Sara time.

This morning I've already taken the van to the car repair place. So for the next several days or weeks, we are without a vehicle. As I've said before, I'm thankful my parents live only a couple of blocks away, and are available whenever we may need them. I went on Saturday and stocked up on groceries for the week, and shouldn't need to go again until at least Thursday, which is my usual shopping day. I'll have to go to the midwife this week, and my mom will be taking me to that. And my dad will be taking my husband to work every morning and my mom will be picking him up in the afternoon. So with the exception of going to the store once this week, and the midwife once, we'll be home all week, which I am very thankful for. I so enjoy time at home, especially when the weather is cold out.

Other plans, here at home this week are to work on Christmas presents for everyone, do some holiday baking, do some fun crafts with the kids, and finish up the rest of schoolwork needing done before we take off the rest of the year, and also to reclaim my once cleaned home to what it was before the holiday. Not that it is anywhere near as bad as it was, but when hubby is home, everything gets much more relaxed around here, plus we spent the weekend putting up Christmas decorations, and I need to finish that up and pack the boxes away. I ofcourse have laundry to do, towels today, and sheets, and whatever else I can get do to keep us busy. I'm off for now, as I speak my kids are off playing *gasp* together. And it seems they are actually getting along for the moment. I may have to take a picture! Have a blessed day!

Country Music = 5 1/2"!

Are you a little confused with the title?

Let me explain.

I'VE LOST 5 1/2" IN 2 WEEKS BY LISTENING TO COUNTRY MUSIC!!!

Nov. 17 I started working out....more!

I had been doing light weights Monday, Wednesdays & Fridays & then on Tuesdays & Thursdays I would go to the gym & walk on the treadmill for 30 minutes.  That worked well until I quit going to the gym & walking.  I put back on all the inches that I lost!  Well, then I decided to just walk outside around my block.  I think I did that once before it got too cold.  Hmmm....what to do?  Our gym membership is over!  So I decided to continue with the weight lifting on Mon., Wed., & Fri. but to also do my stepper for a half hour EACH day!  Yes, that's 5 days a week!  Let me tell ya, the first day I thought that I was going to throw up!  I tried doing the stepper & watching my Little House series but that didn't work very well b/c I just couldn't follow the story while exercising.  Then I decided to do the stepper while watching CMT.  That's the ticket!  It's working!  Music just makes everything easier!  It also helps to see all those skinny women singers.  Kind of motivates you!  I want to be skinny too!  ~Smile~

So I lose inches but I don't lose weight!    One out of 2 isn't bad!  As long as the body gets smaller!  I don't lose weight b/c I like to eat!  I get very agitated when I have to give up the food that I like to eat.  ~Smile~  I would rather exercise than watch what I eat!  I only have to do that ONCE a day!  lol!

Keep moving those bodies ladies!

The Simple Woman's Daybook ~ #11 ~ 12/1/08

FOR TODAY...

Outside my window...On this cold, gloomy morning the snow has just started to fall.  Even as I watch it seems that the flakes are getting a little bigger.  Forecasters say we 'may' have up to 3" today.  It is - after all - December in Ohio.

I am thinking...that I will miss our wonderful church family that we love so dearly.  After 12-1/2 years of making the 70 mile round trip at least twice a week to our church, we have decided to look for a church closer to home after the first of the year.  It's breaking our hearts, but it has been confirmed in all 4 of our hearts.  I will, however, still attend the Seminary.

I am thankful for...a warm house on a cold, blustery day.

From the learning rooms...We are OFF for CHRISTmas break!  In our homeschool, we take off June, July and December instead of August.  Our long, wonderful break has begun!

From the kitchen...I'm considering potato soup.  My grandma's VERY simple Kentucky Depression-era version.

I am wearing...thick, warm socks, flannel pj bottom and a sweat shirt.  It's a cold morning!

I am creating...an empty corner so that Jenna and I can put up our CHRISTmas tree today!  Woohoo!!!

I am going...to the local Old Order farm and get my milk and brown eggs before the snow really kicks in.  I underestimated how much milk we would use during the Thanksgiving weekend and we squeaked out the last of it last night.

I am reading...Bible; still reading Pride & Prejudice.

I am hoping...that we will find great opportunities for ministry in which-ever church we 'land' in.

I am hearing...the T.V.

Around the house...Jenna and I will be putting up most of the CHRISTmas decorations today!  That's ALWAYS so much better than taking them down.

One of my favorite things...good food, fellowship and deep conversation with trusted Christian friends.

A few plans for the rest of the week:  putting up CHRISTmas decorations - inside and out, getting Maggie (our dog) trimmed, making some time to spend w/my mother.  Unfortunately, it may include a funeral as my 94 year old uncle (my mom's last brother out of 13 siblings) will probably pass away today or tomorrow.  I'm praying that the Lord works in ways that we don't understand while he is uncounscious and that somehow he will be Heaven-bound.

Here is picture thought I am sharing...

~ CHRISTmas Eve 2004 we had 21" of snow!!

James 3. Lord talk to me please.

James 3

Taming the Tongue
1Not many of you should presume to be teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly. 2We all stumble in many ways. If anyone is never at fault in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to keep his whole body in check.

This is a big statement Lord. I will think on it a lot today.

3When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal. 4Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. 5Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

In one breath I praise You and in the next, I am cursing You indirectly when I gossip, or back bite, or grumble. You hate grumbling. Your Word says so. Forgive me Lord.....

7All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man, 8but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

Is it hopeless Lord? Is there no hope for my mouth? Create in me a Clean Heart Lord, please........

9With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. 10Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be. 11Can both fresh water and salt[a] water flow from the same spring? 12My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.

Lord, I just want to take my talents and bury them and hide. I know this is Wrong. Your Word says so. Help me to bring your great returns. Shore me up Lord. Send someone to help hold my arms up in this battle.

Two Kinds of Wisdom
13Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. 14But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. 15Such "wisdom" does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil. 16For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.

Humility. Lord I am learning about your servant Moses, who is said to be the most humble of all..........Maybe you are teaching me humility right now and I am sleeping in class. Help me to see clearly.

17But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. 18Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness.

Wisdom: Pure. Peace-loving. Considerate. Submissive. FULL of Mercy and Good Fruit. Impartial, Considerate. THAT is a huge list. I want to know this way Lord. I want to serve in this way.

Hi again. I'm asking for a little help. As I mentioned I'm in the process of going gluten free and am looking for some good recipes that have been tried and true so to speak. I did type in gluten free on the home page and did come up with a couple but if anyone out there has any ideas, good recipes, or web site suggestions I'd really, really appreciate it. I've tried google but come up with sooooooo many sites and don't know which are good sites or not.

Thank you in advance for any help!!

Christmas and Readings From Ezekiel

Eze 11:12And ye shall know that I am the LORD: for ye have not walked in my statutes, neither executed my judgments, but have done after the manners of the heathen that are round about you.

Jer 10:2 Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. Jer 10:3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. Jer 10:4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.

We do a Read You Bible In A Year Plan on my Yahoo Group Veiled,Sabbath Keeping,Homeschoolers. We are reading through the Book of Ezekiel now, and the verse Ezekiel 11:12 spoke to me about Yahweh's people are not following His Laws that He has given us and put in the Bible, but Yahweh's people are following the customs of the world who are following Satan. They will not say they are following Satan, some will even say they are Christians, but if we are following the world we are following Satan, for He is the god of this world right now and you can't be of Yahweh and of Satan. You can't serve two Masters.1Co 10:21 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils.Yahweh's people who are keeping December 25 are keeping the birthday of the Sun. Sunworshippers kept this date to worship the sun and all the "Christ-Mass" things you do are what the Sun worshippers did to celebrate the birth of the Sun.The Catholic church wanting to bring the Pagan people in the church just changed it over to the birth of Christ, so that the Sun worshippers could still keep their Holiday. The evergreen trees and wreaths and gold and silver , they could still do and now people just say they are doing for Christ. You see Sun worship in the Book of Ezekiel. Eze 8:16 And he brought me into the inner court of the LORD'S house, and, behold, at the door of the temple of the LORD, between the porch and the altar, were about five and twenty men, with their backs toward the temple of the LORD, and their faces toward the east; and they worshipped the sun toward the east.

All anyone has to do to see the paganism of Christmas is look in your encyclopedia's.Look up the history of the Christmas tree. Google is Christmas pagan and see what it has to say.I pray that you give up this pagan worship and turn to Yahweh, Our Heavenly Father, who loves you so much.If you do, you can hold on to this promise..

Eze 11:18

And they shall come thither, and they shall take away all the detestable things thereof and all the abominations thereof from thence.

Eze 11:19

And I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; and I will take the stony heart out of their flesh, and will give them an heart of flesh:

Eze 11:20

That they may walk in my statutes, and keep mine ordinances, and do them: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God.
