We go tomorrow to see if we can work out a deal on this house. It's less than half the size of the place we rent right now, but it's very cute and, with some considerable downsizing, I think we could make it work. All depends on what kind of payments the realtor is willing to accept. It's not a perfect house....the basement was very small and a little damp (that can be easily fixed), it has fairly low ceilings, not as much storage space as I'm used to and, while the kitchen is bigger than the one we have now, there isn't as much cupboard space. There's something about it, though..... It's bright and open. I can see it being home. The backyard is huge, but the fence needs repaired in a couple of spots. Plenty of space to expand if we wanted. So we shall see. If not this house there will be others. Just need patience. My honey, Earl, helped a friend clear out a house and was given a white leather sofa and loveseat. I can't wait to get them home. They will look so nice in our living room. I made a big pot of Wisconsin cheese soup. Yummy! It is sooooo good!! I love making soups on days like this. Makes you all warm and cozy feeling. And the 80 year old mother of a friend gave us a jar of her homemade plum jelly. Tastes like a little bit of summer. New Home

I am sooooo excited!! I just got a call from the real estate agent that I had talked to the other day. I had called her about a house for sale in the area that had been on the market for over a year now. Come to find out, they had taken it off the market (it's agent owned) and hadn't decided what to do with it. I guess the house has a rather strange floorplan and they had been having trouble selling it because of that. Anyhow.....she said we can go look at it tomorrow afternoon. I don't think that the rooms are very big, but it has three bedrooms, a partial basement, a walk-in closet, and a huge fenced-in back yard. Plenty for just me and Earl. Still can't have all the animals I would like to have, but more than enough room for the puppies and my rabbits and a decent sized garden. I had told her how much we could afford in monthly payments, so we are hoping to work out something. Please let this be a good house for us.....please let it be one we can work with. Finally we could have a home of our very own. No more renting.

I recently read an article on-line about naming your home. I really like the idea. The name you give your home can have myriad meanings. It can tell about your family, where the home's located, etc. Some of the names mentioned that people had picked were Stillwater, The Elms, and Wit's End. I like the idea of permanence that giving your home a name implies, also. It gives you a history and roots. We're hoping to find a place of our own soon. When we do, I will be sure to give our home a name. Does your home have a name? What is it? Or what would it be? Just a Homestead Wannabe

I've always been a farmgirl at heart. I remember being soooo jealous of my friends who lived on farms. Come to think of it, most of them DID live on farms. That way I got to at least visit the country life. I started reading Mother Earth News in the 70's. I started dreaming then of having a small country home, a garden, animals..... Now, at 48 years old, it's time to start living the life I've always dreamed of. We aren't in the country, but I have my garden and our dogs and I've started raising rabbits. We've started simplifying our life and are looking for a small country home. I still want chickens and goats. I'm beginning my own business making gift baskets and teaching women how to have a harmonious home and homelife. Even when I get the home I want, I still need an income. My own business seemed to be the best way to do this. Besides, I'm tired of making money for big corporations while I eke by on minimum wages. Just wanted to give you a short introduction to me......more to come later. Wish me luck on my journey. |
