The skies got gray awfully quick. So far not much in the line of a drizzle though. The birds are still feeding. I enjoy watching them so much. Right now they are just getting bird seed, but pretty soon I will start making their winter treats for them. The treat consists of bacon grease, peanut butter, crushed eggs shells, shaped into a ball and then rolled in bird seed. I usually put a string through them so they can be hung on a litttle cedar tree that is just inside of the patio area. I can still remember my first South Dakota thundestorm and that has been 47 years ago. We had just moved onto this farm. and were about 2 miles from town. For some reason, we had gone into town. My exhusband told me that we should gather up all the kids and get home since there was a big storm coming in. I could see the dark clouds. We were about 1/4 mile from town when we had a blow out on the car tire. Wayne changed the tire, cussing every minute as it started to rain. And I mean it was raining. By the time we got to the house, it was raining so hard you could barely make out the house. The disaster inside the house was even worse. Somehow the wind had blown open the front door and the force of the wind had blown out every single window upstairs and downstairs. I had about 1 inch of water all thoughout the floors. The wind had knocked my oil painted pictures of the kids off of the table and into the water. I couldn't do anything but sit down in the middle of all of that water and cry. I don't think I will ever forget that storm the rest of my life. July 8, 2006 |
