while waiting for the hamburger to thaw

another hot muggy day here in Minnesota.  I thought perhaps I would make a meat loaf today and so here is my special recipe for meatloaf.

Of course you have to have hamburger

lots of chopped onions

chopped green bell peppers

diced tomatoes ( happen to have the Italian style today)

cracker crumbs

a couple of eggs

chopped celery

all sorts of seasonings:  salt and pepper of course, garlic, paprika, cayenne, and a few drops of tabasco.

yes, i am making it on the hot side today.

bake until done.

you can tell I am a taste and stir cook.  Don't measure too much. I am on a low carb diet due to diabetis. but I am sure going to break that diet on my birthday next week.  Looking forward to the fish "n more Long John Silvers meal, a banana split from dairy queen and a real, real coke.

probably won't get it but I can dream.

I often wonder why I do some things that my kids can't figure out.  Usually because it is something my mother or grandmother did.

I always separate eggs when baking a cake....add the yolks well beaten, and then fold in the egg whites very stiffly beaten.  Makes the cake fluffier.

I put just a dash of ginger and a tsp of sugar in almost everything.  It includes veggies.  Seems to draw out the flavor.

A 1/4 tsp of ginger  in the yeast mixture acts as a catalyst in helping the dough rise.

Well, off to the meatloaf.
