Lynne ask me if I own a dryer for the laundry. I don't !

Dryer are quite common in France, but mostly for people living in apartment, people living in a house, as I do, use to hang their laundry outside on a clothes line. During cold monthes, where I live from november to march, I hang my laundry in the laundry room.

I don't like electrical dryers because I think they are a great waste of electricity, I also think that driers damage the clothes, all those pills you find in the filter when you clean it !

Of course, I understand the convenience of a drier when you live in an apartment, or in a place with long spells of bad weather.

I already have posted here  about my laundry schedule.

I'm never overwhelmed with my laundry because I use a schedule that fits exactly the needs of my family, I have a delate fonction on my washing machine, I program it for very early in the morning so I hang it before leaving to work.

I thought you had a programmable washing machine. I have one too. It is my second. I have 3, 6, and 9 hours time delay on it.

I've wanted to hang our clothes out to dry because of the electricity and just because I've always loved having the clothes flutter in the breeze. It seems so peaceful! But my husband doesn't want me to because he said they don't come out soft like the dryer. We hung clothes occasionally when I was growing up, and I don't remember it being a problem, so I was thinking maybe I will start hanging my clothes and the kids clothes and just dry his in the dryer! :) Or see if he would be willing to try it... I should ask him again! You can't beat the fresh smell of clothes dried on the line. :)

Thank you for the dryer information. The Wall Street Journal had an article this past week about Italian women and their cleaning habits. It said that only 1% of Italian families own a clothes dryer. The article said it was because (like you) Italians believe dryers will damage their clothes.

My husband put up a clothesline for my birthday (March). We have used the electric dryer only one time in two months. I started using the clothesline to use less electricity to try to help towards reducing pollution. We found that we love the way our clothes smell when dried outside. It really takes very little time to hang them outside. We will have to work on a way to dry them inside when the cold weather comes back. We also are having a 72% (that\'s right, 72%) increase in our electric rates in June. So, the clothesline will also save us some money. I enjoy reading your blog.

Hi!

I've got two photos of iced sea in an entry called Photos in my blog's archives. I'll try to post a few more in my Photo Album if I can. However, you can't really tell that the photos have been taken of iced sea because there's snow on top of it : )

Bonne journée!
