Show & Tell Friday

Well friends it's show and tell Friday again                                                                                                           This week I am going to share my collection of Amish books and cookbooks. These are special to me as I have friends who live in a conservative Mennonite community.

I collected these at various places.I just love the pictures they are so cute, especially of the little kids.                                                                 I'll tell you what you haven't tasted good food until you've had some Amish cooking. One of the things I love about their cookbooks is that everything is in large quantities.Normally I would have to double or triple a regular recipe, but not with these. Some of the things I've made out of these has been: peach cobbler, coconut cream pie, toffee apple pie, molasses cookies,Amish mashed potatoes loaded with cheese and butter and several casserole type dishes.YUM!                                   My favorite is Cooking from quilt country,by Marcia Adams                      Lastly I have this small collections of chickens and roosters. These belonged to my husbands mother who passed away  9 years ago.My husband remembered them as a child and when he and his siblings went to their mom's house to retrieve momentos he wanted these. We have them displayed on top of these curtain boxes above our windows.   I can tell there needs to be a tad bit of dusting up there.  Show & Tell Friday is done at  http://kellishouse.blogspot.com/                                                         Okay, okay I'll fess up the Amish cooking is definately not for those watching their waistlines.Almost everything has loads of butter,so they're not something I cook out of everyday, but mainly I use them a lot on special occasions.

I've heard Amish cooking is really good!

How neat that your husband was able to keep the things of his mother's that held special memories for him.

love chickens and roosters--those are darling. I have some too. Now as far as the cookbooks---sounds great, but perhaps heart attack food for those of us that don't work as hard as the AMISH!!
