Surgery
Posted By
m j
How things work out some times is such a pain in the tush! On Monday I got in the mail the ok from our insurance company to have more surgery on my still broken leg , I was so happy. The key word is WAS. Why was?
Well...... last night Shannon brought home the paper work for the up coming year on our medical insurance. Guess what ? They changed insurance companies. UUGGHHH. I am glad we went back to our old insurance company, but did it have to start on 12-01-08???
Now we have to start all over with getting the insurance to approve for my new surgery. I want this over and done with. My leg has been broken for a year on the 27th of December.

Cute saying from my grand-babies
Posted By
m j
We went to Disneyland on the 2nd with the grand-babies. We had so much fun with them. We took them to carry on the annual tradition we have of going to see Santa. We have done this with our girls and Marty. It is the 1st time in 12 years that Marty is not in the picture. That was very hard on us all, we miss him so much.
So on the way home I ask Shayna if Jeffie is in a pull up or panties?? Jeffie told me he is" wearing underwear and he is keeping them safe in his pants" . We all laughed so hard. How cute he is!!
While we were taking pictures of things Shayna is taking pictures of her purse who is a stuffed lion (don't ask) . Maddie said " no pictures of the bear take pictures of MEEE".
They are so cute. What a blessing they are to us. I will post pictures of Disneyland with the grand-babies soon.
God Bless, mj |

Want To Learn About The Economy?
Posted By
Scatter The Seeds
A few months ago things I was seeing and hearing about the economy and this 'bailout' weren't adding up. The gas shortage we had here in the Southeast didn't make sense to me either. So I started to dig. Boy were my eyes opened.
Understand this about me, I love research. I don't want to just be told it's this way because of this so take my word for it, I want to know why. Why is it this way, what lead up to things being the way they are, where did we go wrong? How did you find this out? See, digging.
I encourage others to dig and learn too. So, I'm not going to tell you everything I've learned. I'm going to point you in the direction, if you want to read--do so--if not--don't click any further. Your choice.
I was blessed to find Traditions of Men. Doug Tjaden does a fantastic job explaining the history of the economy, the history of the Federal Reserve (WHICH ISN'T A FEDERAL AGENCY, IT'S A PRIVATE CORPORATION, you may have known this, I had no idea.) And about our Fiat money system too. I poured over all the information and I have to admit, lots of it went over my head. But I hung in their praying diligently for wisdom clinging to James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally, and without reproach and it will be given to him.
Check out Traditions of Men. Be sure to click on New Visitors and take the red pill. You'll be glad you did! |

Simple Afghan Pattern
Posted By
Scatter The Seeds
I've been working on knitting a simple afghan pattern. I work on it anytime I'm listening to Steel on Steel or Kevin Swanson or just watching TV or listening to the kids share what they've learned in their Apologia Science lesson for the day.
I love this simple pattern because you get to do it in blocks, you make 20 blocks you sew it together and your done. It's simple to do for beginners and it's easy, easy, easy to remember where your at in the pattern.
Here is a link to the Squares Lap Afghan. Oh, I use #10 knitting needles, and I didn't pay attention to the gauge as it's just blocks I'm sewing together.

HORSES!!!
Posted By
andiplus8
Well, since we have every other kind of animal a farm needs we have decided to get a couple of horses. I have utilized my yahoo groups and the internet to search out suitable candidates. So far we have some nice horses in the running. (no pun intended!)
We have one over near Tulsa that we are going to try to go look at Monday. He is a sweet, dead broke gelding quarterhorse. He's 13 yrs and 14.5 hh. Very pretty chestnut coloring.
We have a few we are looking at tonight that seem likely. One is a bomb-proof, dead-broke mare that is 21 yrs and 15.3 hh. The others are green-broke and would not be for the kids, but for Royce and I. Funny how the unbroke and green-broke horses are dirt cheap, but the more broke they are the more expensive they are.
The other two candidates we have already looked at. One is a 5yr old Paint. She is 14hh and very pregnant. She's due in March. She is broke to ride but isn't outrageously friendly. The other is a 2yr old APHA registered filly. She is going to be bigger than the mare. She is broke to ride bareback, but not saddle. She is very loving. I really like her. She is a piebald.
Anyway, I will update when we finally make our decisions. Until then................................ |

The longing of a sacred place called "HOME"

I rarely get the chance to post here anymore but love to visit and read all of my old stomping grounds. I found this poem recently and even placed it in my sidebar at my other blog. I love it and find it very profound and even though the words were written in the 1800's, they still apply to my life today.
Stay, stay at home, my heart, and rest;
Home-keeping hearts are happiest,
For those that wander they know not where
Are full of trouble and full of care;
To stay at home is best.
Weary and homesick and distressed,
They wander east, they wander west,
And are baffled and beaten and blown about
By the winds of the wilderness of doubt;
To stay at home is best.
Then stay at home, my heart, and rest;
The bird is safest in its nest;
O'er all that flutter their wings and fly
A hawk is hovering in the sky;
To stay at home is best.
By: Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882)
Have a great day!!!

Catching up

Flossie

Well, good morning! It has been so long since I have written anything! I hope everyone had a blessed Thanksgiving! We had a great time with family - cousins laughing and giggling, Aunts and Uncles, Granparents... I love the sound of family laughter.
I really miss blogging and sharing with all of you!
Over the past week we had our holiday parade in town - so much fun! The youth were busy working at our house all week "creating" their float. Then on Nov. 22nd we marched down the main street of our town and saw many faces we knew!
Our little town of Roseville is turning 100 years old - little older but that is when it was incorporated - and will have a float in the Roseville Tournament of Roses Parade next year. Look for us if you watch that parade. They are getting volunteers to start attaching stuff. Could be a lot of fun!
I jhave been overseeing a Keeper's group for my homeschool coop. We have been working on crocheting and the girls are busily making hats for charity. The great thing is that the boys are even being inspired. I was at my friends house last night and her one son has chain stitched a rope that goes the length of their house - or further? I challenged him to measure it for me :)
I will try and share some pics. I so enjoy getting a glimpse into your life that way :)
Blessings,
Flossie

Odds, ends, body snatchers

Thanks to the tremendous blessing of work Bobby received last week, we were able to get our van back from the mechanic. (We have the best mechanic in the world save for two things - he lives too far away and is next to impossible to get a hold of by phone. But he’s good and he’s inexpensive.) It has now been sitting in the driveway for a week, going absolutely nowhere. Not because it doesn’t work but because going places takes gas, gas takes money and the only places I’d go I’m likely to spend money anyway. We’ve saved a lot of money the last few weeks by seldom going out. It’s not like we’re big spenders anyway, but we’ve sure cut back and learned to make do.
Use it up
Wear it out
Make it do
Or do without
We've listed our van on craigslist, hoping to sell it and buy the 15 passenger we've had our eye on for months. The fella still hasn't sold it and it just sits... and sits... and sits... He finally started moving it around a bit and I checked the tires and they're not as bad as I expected they'd be from sitting. The good news is he's also come down to $1500, which is what we're trying to get out of our van. Just praying about that one.
Bobby is working again this week, praise Yah! Looks like we’ll make the mortgage payment after all. I hardly know what to do with myself with him gone all day. I’ve gotten the kids back to some semblance of a schedule. I feel terrible that I can’t seem to keep up with this, but I’m learning. Learning to keep up with it and learning to be okay with it when I can’t.
That 99% health my family enjoys most of the time (mentioned a couple posts back)...? Well, I’ve been suffering that other 1% the last few days with a head cold. I was tickled to discovered a couple boxes of echinacea tea in the pantry that I’d gotten this summer when we had whooping cough - I forgot all about them. Also I’ve gotten to try out the elderberry cordial I made this summer. It’s delicious! So soothing to drink a hot cup of it with a dash of lemon.
I’m hoping it’s just the bug but I sure haven’t felt like doing anything. It’s hard to get around, hard to get motivated. Not sleeping as well, my hips are starting to ache and sometimes they spaz and just give out on me. I feel terribly pregnant all of a sudden and am very much looking forward to having my body back here in a few weeks (Baby’s new nickname is Body Snatcher). I suppose it’s a combination of several things; Bobby working, financial strain, being sick, being 35 weeks pregnant, the short days and dreary weather. I’m ready for a break, a change of scenery. I wish I’d gotten to paint my living room while the weather was still warm. It’s a dark green kind of color and I’ve been longing to brighten it up and redecorate. It’s also time to get things ready for the birth, but some things are just going to have to wait a bit while we scrounge up some money. But these are just more "things" I don’t have and I must focus on what I do have. Contentment is the key.
I do have a huge pile of scrap fabric and a sewing machine. Sewing is my favorite indulgence this time of year. It hurts to sit for too long, but it’s not like I can with five kids anyway! These days we’re taking turns as they continue to sew up a wardrobe for their rag dolls. Farra made a little boy doll yesterday and today she’s going to learn how to make pants for it. I got out some fabric I’d bought a few months ago and finally sewed myself a nursing dress. I love jazzing things up with appliqué and always come up with something unique. The downside is that these skirts and dresses become "special" and I have a hard time making them every-day wear which is what I could really use. But it’s so much fun.
My mom gave me about 50 movies she’d weeded out of her huge collection and I finally got them listed on half.com. I am amazed at how easy it is to sell things there! If you have movies or books or music that you don’t want lying around, get yourself an account and make a few extra bucks. All you have to do is type in the UPC/ISBN and it (usually) pulls an entry right up and you fill in the blanks about the item's condition. It usually recommends a price and you can adjust it as you see fit. It goes into your inventory and you get an email when someone’s purchased it. You click a button to print the packing slip, pack it all up and drop it by the post office within 3 business days. half.com reimburses you for the shipping costs and I’ve only shipped a few packages, but it looks like I’m actually making a little money off the shipping. Some of the movies are going ridiculously cheap, less than a dollar, but they were free to me and every dollar counts. Anyway, I just wanted to say it’s really easy and anyone can do it. I’ve started listing some books, too.
We had our first snow the other day. Nothing significant, but it came down in pretty flakes for a couple hours, melting on the ground. I was feeling particluarly foggy-headed and so wasn't as excited as I usually am. The kids are itching for some sledding snow. I still need to reorganize and make the sleds, hats and mittens more easily accessible. Yeah... I’ll put that on my list of things I don’t really feel like doing but ought to.
Gosh, I’m terrible the last few days! All feel like doing is sewing or writing. I’m actually looking forward to having the baby so I can have a week off. It’s not so much that there’s that much to do, but postpartum is the only time I don’t feel guilty for not getting it done! A whole week off didn’t exactly happen last time because Bobby had to work and I was alone with the kids a lot, but this time I will make use of my friends’ offers and call for back-up so I can stay down for at least one solid week. My older kids have learned so much since Royal was born, though... I know they’re going to be such a blessing this time. They can do just about all the housework that needs to be done, if directed, and they know how to use the stove, oven, microwave, etc.
I’ve got a lot of other thoughts tumbling about my head, but will have to get to those later. Right now I owe a letter to a dear old goat in Oregon.

St. Louis City Leader Says Police Ineffective, Tells Residents to Get Armed
ST. LOUIS — A St. Louis city leader frustrated with the police response to rising crime called Tuesday on residents to arm themselves to protect their lives and property.
Alderman Charles Quincy Troupe said police are ineffective, outnumbered or don't care about the increase in crime in his north St. Louis ward. St. Louis has had 157 homicides in 2008, 33 more than last year at this time.
"The community has to be ready to defend itself, because it's clear the economy is going to get worse, and criminals are getting more bold," Troupe, 72, said Tuesday.
Troupe said that when he and residents approached a district police commander last year, they were told "there was nothing he could do to protect us and the community ... that he didn't have the manpower."
Police did not immediately return requests for comment. Chief Dan Isom told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch he understands Troupe's frustration but doesn't support citizens arming themselves.
Carrying guns, he said, is not a "recipe for a less violent community."
Source: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,460725,00.html
Of course, the last line kills me. Citizens arming themselves is not a recipe for a less violent community? Why, because criminals are MORE likely to break into homes where they think the homeowners will shoot at them? The logic here astounds me. |

Please be so kind to make it so I can post to my blog using the Mozilla Firefox browser. Please?
I know this is a free service and don't get me wrong, I love HB'er, preferring the homey feel and appearance, but I love my Firefox more and if I can't post links or pictures using it, well then I don't know what to do....oh come on, I can't possibly be the only user on the whole site that uses Firefox and finds IE to be an inferior browser. Can I?
Please...pretty please? *hugs HB & bats eyes* |
