• Saturday, November 22, 2008 - Drums Along The Mohawk- A Great Revolutionary War/Frontiers Family Movie

Drums Along the Mohawk is a very good movie about a period in American history that not many movies have been made about. Set during the Revolutionary War, the story is about two newlyweds and their new life in the Mohawk Valley. The couple is trying to establish themselves with a home and farm of their own, but are interrupted when the British and the Mohawk Indian tribe begin to raid all along the valley. The settlers must deal with the raiding Indians while also trying to survive.
We borrowed this from the library the other day. It is an excellent movie.
I went on Amazon to see if they have copies still available (this movie was made in 1939) and they have it on DVD and VHS.
It is so nice to find good movies, that don't edit out the Christian contribution that was made when this country was founded. This movie really gives you a look into the frontier families that were making this land their own during the revolutionary war.
Bless all who pass this way!

• Saturday, November 22, 2008 - Of Plymouth Plantation-The Truth About The Pilgrims
We have been reading this book for the past month. It is the diary of William Bradford, of Plymouth Plantation. It chronicles the Pilgrims experiences and trials while they were establishing their new home in America.
There are so many details in this book. So much that I have learned that will not be found in todays textbooks. You can truly see God's hand in these peoples lives throughout their journey to establish a new colony for the glory of God.
They had so many hardships, yet they continued to put their trust in God no matter what the outcome. These people really should be remembered as heros in this land today. Christian heros who loved God enough to leave ALL that they had to serve Him as the Bible commands.
If you have the chance to read it, PLEASE do so. It is FACTUAL information on the pilgrims with NO political reinventions. You will learn the truth about the first Thanksgiving!
Bless all who pass this way!

• Saturday, November 22, 2008 - No Condemation

No Condemnation
In those days, and in that time, saith the Lord, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found: for I will pardon them whom I reserve. (Jeremiah 50:20)
A glorious word indeed! What a perfect pardon is here promised to the sinful nations of Israel and Judah! Sin is to be so removed that it shall not be found, so blotted out that there shall be none. Glory be unto the God of pardons!
Satan seeks out sins wherewith to accuse us, our enemies seek them that they may lay them to our charge, and our own conscience seeks them even with a morbid eagerness. But when the Lord applies the precious blood of Jesus, we fear no form of search, for "there shall be none"; "they shall not be found." The Lord hath caused the sins of His people to cease to be: He hath finished transgression and made an end of sin. The sacrifice of Jesus has cast our sins into the depths of the sea. This makes us dance for joy. ( I am so thankful that The Lord Saved me!)
The reason for the obliteration of sin lies in the fact that Jehovah Himself pardons His chosen ones. His word of grace is not only royal but divine. He speaks absolution, and we are absolved. He applies the atonement, and from that hour His people are beyond all fear of condemnation. Blessed be the name of the sin-annihilating God!

• Friday, November 21, 2008 - Unaswered Prayer?
All of us have prayers we raise up to heaven that "seem" to appear go unanswered as of yet...... some of us have been praying for something for days, months and yes even years....... does God not hear us? This quote is for you.........and me. :) ~ gloria ~
" God's timing is not ours to command. If we do not start the fire with the first strike of our match, we must try again. God does hear our prayer, but He may not answer it at the precise time we have appointed in our own minds. Instead, He will reveal Himself to our seeking hearts, though not necessarily when and where we may expect. Therefore we have a need for perseverence and steadfast determination in our life of prayer.
In the old days of flint, steel and brimstone matches, people had to strike the match again and again, perhaps even dozens of times, before they could get a spark to light their fire, and they were very thankful they finally succeeded. Should we not exercise the same kind of perverence and hope regarding heavenly things? When it comes to faith, we have more certainty of success than we could ever have had with flint and steel for we have God's promises as a foundation.
May we, therefore never despair. God's time for mercy will come -- in fact, it has already come, if our time for believing has arrived. Ask in faith, without wavering, but never cease to petition the King simply because He has delayed His reply. Strike the match again and make sparks fly! Yet be sure to have your tinder ready, for you will get a fire before long. "

• Friday, November 21, 2008 - The Joy Giver
I have been so busy this past week......from schooling the children ( there are 8 being schooled now!) and tending the home fires... that I have not had a moment to sit and blog.... and I also went into the city this week and that always takes a good chunk of my time ..........in the midst of the busyness, we have also had time to sing our praises to the Lord and rest in His beautiful promises in HIS word! As we enter into this week of Thanksgiving, I like to take time to remember those brave and faith filled souls who came from so far away to establish a colony where they could worship their God freely without being "dictated" how they should do so. They believed the Word of God was to be taught freely and not under the "banner" or "control" of some church........ oh, how I can relate to these brave souls! My journey to the Lord was somewhat of a pilgrimage in many ways! My family travelled over many miles to arrive to a place where God could teach us and show us His ways. So I do have a tender spot in my heart for those pilgrims who came to America searching for freedom to worship to their heart's content!
This past week we have been learning a new hymn to sing for our Bible devotions. We recently learned the beautiful hymn: As the Deer.... if you don't know this lovely song, you so do need to become familiar with it's beautiful melody and even more beautiful lyrics! I have been hearing my children humming and singing this lovely song........
As the Deer
Music & Lyrics by Martin Nystrom
As the deer pants for the water, so my soul longs after you.
You alone are my heart's desire and I long to worship You.
Chorus:
You alone are my strength , my shield; To you alone my spirit yield. You alone are my heart's desire and I long to worship You.
You're my friend and You are my Brother, even though You are a King.
I love you more than any other, so much more than anything.
Chorus:
I want You more than gold or silver, only You can satisfy.
You alone are the real joy giver, and the apple of my eye.
Chorus
Jesus really is the real JOY giver -- and the apple of my eye! He is what I long for and I need Him like my body needs water! I long to worship Him!
I hope in this coming week ~ that you too will find time to worship the JOY giver!!
Praising Him!

• Friday, November 21, 2008 - Debt
Posted By Isabella
Debt. Such a ugly word. So many people are in debt. Our country is crazy for debt. More stuff. Didn't matter that people would lie on applications for credit. They wanted the house, car, electronics etc. When they got the latest toy that wasn't enough. Another toy was purchased on credit. Now all the bills are due. What to do? Not pay. I am not talking about the people who lost their jobs with no warning. I am not talking about the people who got sick with no medical insurance.
I was 7 months pregnant with DS and very sick. Morning Sickness, Day, Night , all the time. Dh back was horrible. He was getting ready to have surgery. We went into a meeting at his job. To see about benefits or maybe another position in the company. This meeting did not go well. They told him tuff stuff. No position for you. No temporary disability and keep your job. If you used up all of your time you would be out of a job with the company. Dh had worked with the company 18 1/2 years. That meant no early retirement. Dh had enough time saved to get his surgery and heal. Ofcourse, after he went back to work the pain continued on...... In this time I tried to stay positive. The Lord was leading me in a direction to become debt-free. I felt my eyes open up. I prayed. It took longer for dh to get on board but his is there. What a blessing to work as a team. Our last debt is the house. Lord willing, our short goal is to be under 30,000 dollars by Jan 31.
One thing I wanted to say is my dh works everyday in pain. He is providing for his family. Please keep him in your prayers. I think I have found a new procedure for his back (surgery). He doesn't want it right now because their is always the chance that he will have to retire. The other point is that it doesn't matter how much money you make, if you spend more than you make something has to give. Cutting back or making more. Those are the two things. (I am not talking to the people who are unable to work and such) People at dh's job spend money like crazy. In debt up to their eyeballs. Still buying. This is everywhere. I am off my soapbox. God Bless. I |

• Friday, November 21, 2008 - To Early
Posted By Isabella
Hello Everyone. I hope everyone is cozy and asleep. lol. DS is getting up at 3am most mornings. Not really up, more like crying a little and going back to sleep. Any suggestions would help. I check on him and he is back to sleep most nights.
The other night I was sleeping away. I was dreaming of shopping at CVS. I was comparing prizes of pencils. Over the intercom, my ds's voice tells me, "Mommy, I done sleeping now." I am still dreaming but I know the voice isn't right. Something isn't right. DS is suppose to be home asleep because I was shopping by myself. I quickly wake up and my ds is standing beside my bed telling me that he was done sleeping. It was 3 in the morning. Anyhow, I explained to him that it was night time and he had to go back to bed. Cute child. Love him. Hope everyone has a blessed, sleepful night. I |

• Friday, November 21, 2008 - My first try at ZIPPERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted By Gabbie
I am in a swap online, and my swap partner has specifically requested throw pillows for her living room couch. We made a deal that if I make the pillow covers, she will buy the inserts for them if I make them a standard size. That way the shipping won't be so costly. I hope she loves them!!! The fabric was on her wish list, so I think she will.
And the bonus is, zippers are not that hard!! I am thinking of buying some smaller zippers and making some wristlets and makeup bags sometime soon!!
Here is a pic:

And here is a close up of the fabric:
