The Adventures of Mr Mom (& I should keep my mouth shut!)

Posted in Daily Life

Matt has been home with the kids this week and last. Several times when I've come home, I've noticed some strange things. For example, one day, I found a half-eaten banana in the corner behind the toilet. The next day, I came home and found an open silly-putty egg, but no silly-putty. When I asked him about it, he said "Oh, yeah, we've been looking for that all day!" I later found the silly-putty mashed into the sheets on one of the beds.  So, I started to (teasingly) give him a bad time about being Mr Mom, quoting the lines from the country song "Mr Mom" by Lonestar: "There's bubble gum in the baby's hair, sweet potatoes in my lazy chair". It didn't exactly fit, but close enough for me….

Wellllll, the kids got me back for teasing him. On Sunday, I let Brannan glue some animals cutouts onto a picture of Noah's ark. He's used glue before in daycare, and he knows the rules. He was quietly concentrating on his gluing project, minding his own business, so I left the room for ONE minute. Thirty seconds gone, and I hear Heike crying. I go back to the kids, and she's walking toward me crying, "Mommy, he glued me!" I didn't see any harm done, so I thought maybe she was over-reacting. "Oh, honey, it's okay." And then she turned around. Smack in the middle of her head was one of the cut-outs with glue all over her hair!!! He really did glue her! A lot, I might add! It was very hard not to laugh… I didn't want to hurt her feelings or encourage Brannan into thinking that gluing his sister was amusing. Oh, well….

Soooo… I hereby retract all statements previously made by myself regarding my husband and his Mr Mom abilities. I lost that round…. Gluing a sister is much worse than leaving a banana behind the toilet or smashing silly-putty into the bed. Next time I'll just keep my mouth shut.

I have had things like that happen when my dh was home with the kids, too. At least they try!

This is hysterical! Funny things always seem to happen around here when I'm away too. Once I was at a MOPS convention and my husband took the kids camping. Who needs the suitcase though right? Anyway, the kids have fond memories of daddy burning their underwear while drying it over a campfire. No need for a change of clothes when dad's around!!!
