I Took His Hand and Followed
Author Unknown

My dishes went unwashed today,
I didn't make the bed,
I took his hand and followed
Where his eager footsteps led.

Oh yes, we went adventuring,
My little son and I...
Exploring all the great outdoors
Beneath the summer sky

We waded in a crystal stream,
We wandered through a wood...
My kitchen wasn't swept today
But life was gay and good.

We found a cool, sun-dappled glade
And now my small son knows
How Mother Bunny hides her nest
Where jack-in-the-pulpit grows.

We watched a robin feed her young,
We climbed a sunlit hill...
Saw cloud-sheep scamper through the sky,
We plucked a daffodil.

That my house was neglected,
That I didn't brush the stairs,
In twenty years, no one on earth
Will know, or even care.

But that I've helped my little boy
To noble manhood grow,
In twenty years, the whole wide world
May look and see and know.

How very sweet!
I remember my MIL telling me to never worry about "housework" - no matter how much you do today, there will always be more to do tomorrow.
She was such a delight - my children just loved to visit in her home. We lived close so many times she would just come and "borrow" them for a day or two.
So, I pray you will remember this as your little ones grow up - the time you give to them is what they will remember.

I've been reading your blog and previous posts and have so much I want to say! Let's see. I'm jealous of your chickens. :) I was reading the companion plant thing, and if you plant horseradish and want to get rid of it, DON'T rototill it! My parents did. Each sliver of root becomes a new plant. :) I, too, am begining to wear skirts after getting away from it. My husband loves it. I have a couple of denim skirts for everyday, I throw on a baggy old t-shirt and my flip flops and my husband *compliments* me. Strange, lol. :) Well, that's about it. I'm sure I'll think of something else! I like the poem about taking time - that is why I try not to make my daily list so long that I don't have time to relax. :)
