The Hunnicutt Homestead

Excitement and Prayer January 11, 2007

We are getting closer to embarking on our homesteading/ organic sustainable farming dream.  Our family with 4 kids, Caleb, Nate and twins Mia & Dasha (ages 6, 4, &  3)  are looking to try a new type of lifestyle.  One that includes Daddy being home, working sided by side with Mama and his children and lots of time for family homeschool, worship, and enjoyment of the outdoors.

We've been planning for the last year, reading lots of books by authors such as Salatin, Coleman, & Nearing among others.  We've enjoyed DVD's such as the Waller's A Journey Home, Salatin's Polyface Farms.  We've put together business plans, models, various diverse scenarios on how we can get the most out of a small amount of property so that we can ensure that we can be together on a day in day out basis.  Not to mention the joy of working with our own hands, being in control of our own outcomes and discovering our own solutions to problems & difficulties we encounter.

It seems as if we will be saying goodbye to our 1/2 acre stuccoed Albuquerque home very soon.  Goodbye malls, multiple social activities, fellowship and homeschool groups.   We're hoping to travel to Ohio in approximately 10 days to look at 12 homes we've selected from a list of about 60.  All are on 10 acres or more.  Some are pretty rural while others are within 15-30 minutes of a major city.  We are in love with older historic properties with 2 stories, fireplaces and beautiful trees.

We are hopeful as we trust in God's providence and care, but with great interest wondering of what type of community will be a part?  Will we be able to find a church close to where we live?  How accepting will a new community be of newcomers?  Will our friends from Albuquerque keep a promise to come visit?

Until our grand adventure begins I need to get back to caring for house & home today.  That's all for now....

I am so excited for your family and the many possibilities this trip will open up for you. What an adventure!!
I will keep you lifted in prayers that the Lord will go before you, making a clear path for you to follow as you find the homestead He has planned for your family.

What a wonderful opportunity. My best friend lives in OH and I love going to visit her. I agree that the older homes there are so beautiful. I pray that God places you exactly where He wants you to be. It's such a good thing for families to be together working alongside each other.
