Do you follow God completely in all things?

Posted in Scripture

I have been pondering this for awhile, what it really means and the complexity of it.  I strive to follow God in all things, I have a strong desire to, yet, it doesn't always happen.  I know we are sinful man and there is not one perfect, no not one.  I know we live in a fallen world and there are so many people around us that don't even know God, let alone follow Him.  I am not saying I have to be perfect, I can't be.  What I am talking about is trying to follow Him, trying to follow His word in all I do.  Isn't that to be my goal as a born again child of God?  Shouldn't my desire be to please Him in EVERYTHING I do?  I have been meditating on one scripture in particular this morning (although there are many that pertain to this area): "Walk in the Spirit and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh." Galatians 5:16  There are so many people around me that claim to be Christians, claim to know the Lord and to follow Him, yet they don't.  I am not judging, I am speaking truth as to what I see.  They don't follow His word or they pick and choose which parts they will follow.  2 Timothy 3:16,17 says, "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work."  That is ALL scripture, not just want sounds good to you or me.  I don't want to debate this topic, I don't want to argue.  I am simply posting my thoughts on the matter and would love to hear from those that share my view on this.

Here are some of my views, so you know where I stand.

Jesus is the Son of God, raised again on the third day and He will return one day.  The only way to Heaven is through Jesus Christ. I believe in the trinity of Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  I believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God.  I believe that if I am to believe in any part of the Bible, I must believe in the entire Bible.  Therefore, as I child of God, I should follow the Bible as my instruction on how God would have me to live my life.

Some other things I believe:
God would have me to homeschool my children
Women are commanded to dress modestly
Women are commanded to submit to their husbands
Women are to be keepers of the home
Children are a blessing from God
Children are to obey their parents
Parents are to discipline and train up their children according to scripture
We are to be set apart from the world, not taking part in the things of the world
We are to have fellowship with like minded brothers and sisters in Christ
As a Christian, I am to encourage others in their walk with Christ and to restore them lovingly when they trespass or backslide (Galatians 6:1)

These are just some of the things I believe.  If you are like minded and have a blog, will you comment and leave me a link so I can visit your blog?  I look forward to reading posts from others that might encourage me in my walk and I hope to do the same for some of you.

Blessings,
Rashel

This is something that God has been teaching us in different areas. Some things I'm so ready to take to God, others I'm just now realizing that I have had no intention (up to this point) of letting Him control!

Ouch.

I'd type more but I'm out of time!!!

Blessings,
Ashley

**Thank you Ashley for sharing with me. I know we are all in different places in our walks and I guess this is where He has me in my walk right now; really examining whether I am living my life for Him or for me.
Blessings,
Rashel

I agree with your statementof faith. I still sturggle with my headstrongness to God and my husband. As a homeschooling mom I want to teach my children more about God and His works instead of just the RRR. I still feel pressured by the world (and even family andfriends) to conform to this world. Thanks for speaking your mind and holding fast to His word.
Blessings,
Kristen

**I agree with teaching my children more about God and not just the 3 R's. Thank you for leaving a comment, it is much appreciated!! Thank you also for your encouragement to me.
Blessings,
Rashel

Wednesday, August 27, 2008 - I loved this entry

One of the things my husband and I have really been talking about lately is how people in general just don't get it. Our lives are not our own, but we go right along making all the decisions without even consulting God. I told him yesterday that I really need to be involved in a bible study that really challenges me and my spiritual paradigm. I was raised in a "Christian" home, but not one that was submitted to God or even considered what he thought about our day to day activities. He was much too distant for that I bought into the world's views on what was important in life and what my role was as a woman and I must say that almost all of that is completely contrary to what God's word says is important. I am very fortunate to have had a mentor who has helped me start learning to submit my life to God and I am beginning to challenge all that I have accepted as truth for all these years. The last couple of years have been a real transition period in my life and I have come to make decisions alongside my husband that I would have NEVER dreamed of before - such things as staying home with my children, homeschooling, etc. I think that it is wonderful that you are challenging both yourself and us who are out here reading - more people need to be willing to step up and say that God's way is the BEST way. I have a LONG way to go, but it is nice to feel as though I am moving in the right direction and to even realize that there IS a direction to be moving in!! I also told my husband that I am more convinced than ever that when the Bible says that "narrow is the way and few there be that find it" -it applies to the fact that out of all of the people in the world who claim to be Christians - there are few who are actually willing to submit their lives to the Lord. Good luck in finding His way for you.

**Thank you so much for leaving me your thoughts! I was raised as a "Christian" too but we never went to church, read the Bible or any of those things that actually teach you about God. He was distant to me as well and I never really understood much about Him or the Bible until I was married and had my first child, that was when we started attending church. It is comforting to know there is a direction to head in, a race to win and a goal to attain. Blessings to you in your walk toward the prize!

I am so glad to read this post. I so understand what you are talking about and the amazing thing is I have been having the same talk with my parents. I understand and agree with everything you say. I believe that is one of the reasons our country and our world is so messed up. We have gotten away from true christianity. I had a lady tell me one time that she could not hang out a whole lot with one of the ladies in our church. When I asked her why not she told me" because she is to christian for me." All I could think was how in the world can we be "to christian" knowing what Christ did for us............Also I do not think you are being judgemental. You speak from your heart about your heart and what God put on it.

**Thank you for leaving me your thoughts! You made some great points for us to think about and I appreciate your kind words. It is too bad some people think we can be "too Christian", we are just striving to live the way God calls us to.
Blessings,
Rashel
