Starting our Garden

I am really excited about our garden. geoff rototilled
about an acre and we are now trying to figure out what to plant and
where exactly to plant it. we are so clueless. does anybody
know of some good websites that plots out where to plant things? i've
heard that some vegetables do well if they are planted together but I
don't know anything about that. We are also going to get some
Cacky Campbell ducks, apparently they are GREAT to have for thier
eggs.
Take this with a grain of salt!

I'm clinging desperately to my copy of "Square Foot Gardening" to educate me on this sort of thing.
I'll check back and see if anyone else answers you. If I'm the only one, then you're stuck sister!! :-)
Blessings from a gardener wannabe, Kim><><

Oh my, that's an ambitious garden - sounds like you have your work cut out for you! I've found the local library to be the best source of garden info. I haven't found a library yet that doesn't have a ton of gardening books. I really like the Square Foot Gardening books and *any* gardening book my Elliot Coleman. Keep us posted on how it shapes up!!!

Thanks for stopping at my blog, and looking at my goofy hat :) As for gardening, as you looking, look for companion planting. It is pretty good telling you what plants dont like being near each other.

We are going to do a large garden, but in different 'plots'. I know Square Foot Gardening is a good book, very informational. I have even seen it suggested as a handbook for homeschool chidren, and I would agree.
We used it last year, and I had the children read to me what and how and spacing, etc. It is a pretty good manual.
What you are looking for is info on 'Companion Planting', plants that help each other that you want to plant closer to each other.
I think SFG has some in it, but I cannot find my copy at the moment!! Of course!
OrganicGardening.com has this info:

I am going to try it as time and space allow me!.
Thanks, Jacque
lmk if you do it, and how it works for you!

My local extension service has helped me by email with many gardening questions this year. We moved to 5 acres last August and this is our first garden here. So, I am learning too.
Just came across

you blog and this interested me, so I googled companion planting and found this chart, that I thought you might want to look at. I plan to bookmark it and use because we haven't started ours yet.
