I am Very Tardy

Posted on 2006-Feb-22 at 03:47 - Post Comment

I wish I would keep this blog up.  I am so interested in Homesteading, yet I always to forget to come over here and learn from everybody.

We are hoping to start our garden soon, and are planning to get 12 chickens in the next couple weeks.  We want to raise them for meat and eggs.  My daughter Coie is dying to butcher a chicken.  She's sort of a weird girl.

Glad you stopped by

Who's to say how often you post? Not I, said the pig! Let us know how the chickens go. The best breed, I think, for meat is the Cornish Cross ... fast growing, tender and moist.

You are tardy! Now I can call YOU "Homechicken" can't I??!?!?! Heh heh....!

So glad you all are getting settled in....We LOVE having fresh eggs....I don't like the butchering, but I'll do it. Good for Coie! That girl will be able to dig up a septic tank when she's older....;) Butcherin' of chickens builds character.....and muscles from pluckin' :)

Interested in hearing how you are liking your new home. Sounds like such a blessing. Also, we have chickens, LOVE the fresh eggs each day!

Missed you...

You'll have to post of pics of your new beautiful little homestead! Can't wait to see.

I hope Coie does better cutting up her chickens than I did the first time...it took me nearly 2 hours! And everytime I had to crack a joint I'd nearly faint and have to lean over the sink! But...that was 21 years ago - a lot of chickens...er...water has gone under the bridge since then.

Blessings from Ohio, Kim Wolf<><

....yeah, well, I was all "big" about "we're gonna butcher our own pullets".........and now we have the 3 roo's in the coop awaiting the deed and I keep tellin' the guys - "let's wait for Dad to decide"........I'm becoming a weenie............aaahhhhh! We'll get around to it I 'spose - if they would just yip and howl like a coyote, I'd get mad enough to do it by hand....

will have to post when we finally do the deed........

blah - yuk......
