meant to do- did doI meant to do my work today—but a brown bird sang in the apple tree, and a butterfly flitted across the field, and all the leaves were calling me. God created families firstIn the midst of the praying, it is comforting to remember that God considers families important. Before he called a nation, he created a family. Question with a questionWhen someone asks you a question you don't want to answer, smile and ask, "Why do you want to know?" Something to think onThere is no substitute for genuine lack of preparation. Potter and Tiggy-WinkleI do not remember a time when I did not try to invent pictures and make for myself a fairyland amongst the wild flowers, the animals, fungi, mosses, woods and streams, all the thousand objects of the countryside. (Beatrix Potter) I loved Ms. Potter's books growing up- my siblings and I each had a very special copy of a special story that my mother thought fit us. My little book was Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle, the prickly Hedgehog who does everyone's wash. My mother thought I was like the little girl in the story- always curious and way too inquisitive. My mother even inscribed each book for us. How one should eatEver heard this saying?Eat breakfast like a King Lunch like a Queen and supper like a pauper. I think one of my grandparents told me this saying years ago to remind me to eat a big breakfast, hearty lunch and sparse supper. It is suppose to be healthier for you because you are more active during the day and will therefore burn the calories you eat better than at night when you are more sedentary and then go to sleep. I have been trying to eat this way but am finding myself quite hungry at about 8:30-9 o'clock at night. And thats when I have the cravings- cravings for unhealthy snacks like a banana split or chips & dip or a brownie or something else like it . . . . . One other thing I love to have is a small bowl of cold cereal such as honey nut Cheerios. I know it's not the best but I figure it is better to eat than the banana split! About socializationI just heard a wonderful quote I want to remember and to share. It was one homeschool mom's comment after someone criticized their family's choice on the merits of their children's lack of socialization."I want my children to be civilized, not socialized." And here I am to say that I want the same for my children. To laugh and ponderA Cherokee Indian was a special guest at an elementary school. He talked to the children about his tribe and its traditions, then shared with them this fun fact: "There are no swear words in the Cherokee language." One boy raised his hand, "But what if you're hammering a nail and accidentally smash your thumb?" "That," the man answered, "is when we use your language." To think onHere's a wonderful saying to think on . . . . It is easier to get older than it is to get wiser.
Wow QuoteThe trouble with doing something right the first time is that nobody appreciates how difficult it was.How is that for a quote! LOL!
Sources of encouragement to meThose who anger you, conquer you. No one can make you feel inferior without your consent. Whatever is begun in anger, ends in shame. Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthen, ambition inspired and success achieved. Our real blessings often appear to us in the shape of pains, losses and disappointments; but let us have patience and we shall soon see them in their proper figures. God is the only one not threatened by the depth and breadth of my need. Talking bad about a farmerYou can't talk bad about a farmer with a mouth full of food. Found this saying on my brother's blog and had to share. How very, very true. Great giftThe greatest gift a Father can give his children is to Love their Mother. Achievement"Savoring Achievement"
"...Housekeeping actually offers more opportunities for savoring achievement than almost any other work I can think of. Each of its regular routines brings satisfaction when it is completed . . . . You get satisfaction not only from the sense of order, cleanliness, freshness, peace and plenty restored, but from the knowledge that you yourself and those you care about are going to enjoy these benefits.” Something to ponder"An Extension of Her Body"
"...What a traditional woman did that made her home warm and alive was not dusting and laundry...Her real secret was that she identified herself with her home...her affection was in the soft sofa cushions, clean linens, and good meals; her memory in well-stocked storeroom cabinets and the pantry; her intelligence in the order and healthfulness of her home; her good humor in its light and air. She lived her life not only through her own body but through the house as an extension of her body; part of her relation to those she loved was embodied in the physical medium of the home she made." Wednesday WhimsicalMy Wednesday Whimsical. This one is HARD! I just love to collect quotes . . . .
What is one of your favorite quotes? Any concern too small to be turned into a prayer is too small to be made into a burden. - Corrie Ten Boom Sending some SmilesIf you can stay calm, while all around you is chaos; then you probably haven’t completely understood the seriousness of the situation. The trouble with bucket seats is not everyone has the same size bucket.
