What a Day! Ear Infection ?

Today I was to take my DS for his 2 year check-up. Yesterday my oldest DD came home feeling run down and blue (she's had a sub for 2 weeks). I figured it was her lack of sleep and unhappiness. We went for a walk and it seemed to help and she spent time @ her grandparents- working on an hour's worth of homework in peace and quiet. She seemed better.

This morning when I went in and woke the girls up . . . .what a sight. My DD sat up with hair sticking everywhere dried snot on her face (she's 9 and that's not a pretty picture) bloodshot, puffy eyes and a barking cough. She complained of her throat hurting and sounded croaky when she spoke. I felt her forehead- definitely a fever. Checked- yep 103+. Sigh. Told her to go back to sleep, plugged in the vaporizor and got up DD #2.

She slept until I got her up to take DS to the doctor. We stopped by Daddy's work to pick him up to go with us and found he was trying to flush his eye as he had gotten something in it while driving a forklift (which he wouldn't have had to drive if all of his guys had been there). Daddy "made" us a bit late for our appt. DS checked out wonderfully- healthy, verbal and full of energy. I asked the nurse practicioner to check DD and we found out it wasn't the flu or strep that I had feared but an acute ear infection. Her lungs are clear and throat looks pretty good. Fever was due to the infection which would have painfully presented itself within the next 24 hours if we hadn't brought her in to see him.

Yes, they prescribed amaxocillin. Sigh. I don't like giving my kids drugs.

I know some of you are homopathic and have much knowledge . . . . .

What do you do when your children have ear infections? Compresses? Something with herbs? I'm going to give her a steam bath later with some peppermint and eucalyptis (spelling?) to loosen up her congestion.

Looking to see what has worked for you . . . . .

I wish I saw this sooner, I'm sorry! Collidal Silver (I think that's how you spell it.) You get it from the health food store. Use 2-3 drops, it helped my daughter. I too hate giving my children medicine. Please let me know if you EVER need anything.

God Bless,
Amber

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD11- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD8- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added spice of flavor to our family.

DS4- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He likes to think he's in charge and often is! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
