Home Sweet Simple Home

99th day of school today

I haven’t mentioned much about our homeschooling lately.
We are doing very well. We’ll celebrate our 100th day of school this Friday. We are over half way through the school year and we are still loving what we are learning.
I have really REALLY enjoyed using Winter Promise with Maiden this year and plan on totally using WP next year for all the children. Yes, I said all. They have resources for preschool that I am very interested in. Mr. Conductor is just truckin’ right on through everything I am putting in front of him right now and Maiden has expressed an interest in “doing school with Mr. C” over the summer (hmmm- we’ll see how that goes!).
Sassafras is really coming into her own with her schooling- she continues to struggle with her language arts (our current curriculum is overwhelming her- I will be switching next year) but the rest is going quite smoothly. She usually finishes her schooling in about 2 hours now that I’ve flipped from starting with math to ending her school time with math. She does well but dilly-dallies a lot and drives me crazy. Moving her math to the end was a great idea as she has found that her dilly-dallying prevents her from going off and playing with Mr. Conductor. I am finding she has become a bit better at motivating herself to get done.
Maiden finishes and enjoys what she is learning but has become decidedly sluggish. It has become more and more difficult to get her to finish in a timely manner. Sometimes it’s because I find her reading ahead in her texts and other times I find her off doing something else- easily distracted and hard to bring back into focus. She does finish her work but sometimes it is a long drawn out process. I’m trying to see this as one of the pluses of homeschooling- taking your time—but I admit it upsets me because it disrupts my schedule! I believe I need to learn to “let go” a bit.
Today I am working on putting together their packets for 100th Day tomorrow. I am praying it will be a nice change of pace for us all.
With all that has been going on- I have made it my policy to give over our homeschooling day to the Lord before my feet hit the floor each morning. Things always tend to go better that way . . . .

Your 100th day celebration sounds like so much fun! How creative!
And you've got me interested in Winter Promise now. I'd never heard of it, but I'm still knew to the whole homeschool world. I went to their site though and read all about them and it sounds like a good thing. I'm requesting a catalog.

God Bless!
Allison

Oh, yes, get their catalog! When the catalog came I took it, a pen and notepad and my cup of coffee &a snack and went off by myself to drool, dream and make notes!
The catalog is wonderful and the quality of the products is SPOT ON!
Feel free to ask me questions about it too!
God Bless-
Amy W

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD11- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD8- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added spice of flavor to our family.

DS4- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He likes to think he's in charge and often is! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
