What He did for me Today

It has been a bitterly cold day here in SW Michigan. Yesterday was a drizzly 38 degree day, then a winter thunderstorm- complete with lightning and thunder which brought with it temperatures plummeting to 8 degrees during the night. Mr. Steady found he had to use a crowbar to pry open his car door when he left for work very early this morning. All the local schools were canceled. The roads were extremely icy and with the bitter cold any salt thrown on wasn’t melting the ice.
My momma called to see if we were having a snow day- I laughed and said, “What for? We’re already at school!” She felt bad for the kiddos but I reminded her that we won’t be needing to make up any snow days at the end of the school year! After chatting for a bit and sharing that I had planned on going grocery shopping at Aldi’s but had now squashed that plan, she told me that we’re going to be hit with a snow storm tomorrow and into Friday. Sigh.
She then decided that since she has a nice heavy-duty “old people’s” car that she would come over and pick us up and take us to the grocery store. Have I ever stated, for the record, that I love my Mommy? I most certainly do. We hopped into her toasty warm automobile and chugged along at a steady 35-45 mph to Aldi’s.
My plan of attack was to purchase 90% of the needed groceries for the next 3 weeks. Not only did I succeed but I actually came in $2.50 under budget. That might not seem like much but I felt successful. AND I spent a grand total of $57.50.
Yes, that is under $60 for approx. 3 weeks worth of groceries. I am so raising the praise here! I had my list with approx. cost with me when I went into the store but there were a couple of items I couldn’t get and a couple of items I purchased that weren’t on my list (milk was $2.89/gallon so I just had to grab one!). As the groceries chugged along the conveyor belt, I prayed that it wouldn’t be more than I had in my hand. And to find out that it was actually a bit less than I had in my hand- Oh, I am sure my face just radiated pure joy! Yet another example of how the Lord is at work!
Speaking of examples- we are crunching and scrunching to come up with the first payment to the collector that sued us . . . . Mr. Steady has a collection of old wires and whatnot in the garage that he’s been slowly stripping the copper out of for months and months. Wonder of wonders, but he was almost done with the task when this all came about on Monday. He spent part of Monday evening finishing up the job and took the copper to sell it after work on Tuesday. He had a set dollar amount in mind that he was hoping the copper would be worth—imagine his utter astonishment when the copper was actually worth 3 times the amount he had prayed for! Thank you Lord!! When he came home and showed me the money there were tears in his eyes as he said, “We serve an awesome God.” Then he hugged me and said, “God is good.”
To which, I of course, shouted in reply, “All the time!”
We are both feeling lighter in spirit than we have in a long, long time.
I am feeling as if the clouds are lifting and my uplifted face is basking in the sun.
Which it indeed is- I’m basking in the warmth of THE SON!

Do you like the food at Aldi's? I have never really shopped there. I just might have to try them? $60.00 for 3 weeks:)

Good Job!

Groceries

Amy,

Great job grocery shopping! I am sure you are very busy, but I would love to learn about what kind of meals you are serving. I have been working on reducing that expense for a year. The prices of groceries and goods have been on a fast incline here in Maine.
Have a blessed day!

Jennifer

Amy,
What a wonderful story! I am praying for you that you find a way to pay off this loan IN LESS THAN 3 years.

The best and quickest way for you to see the types of meals I serve is to click on recipes under categories in my sidebar. I have a cost breakdown for most of the recipes listed there.
Good luck and God Bless-

I had to laugh when I read this post about stripping wire for copper. That is exactly what our family did this past year to finance our fall vacation trip.

It was a lot of hard work, but worth it in the end.We would not have to been able to spend a week on the pier fishing if wasn't for all of that copper.

Ain't God always good to give us what we need , when we need it. He knows it all!

Great job on the grocery shopping too. I am also trying to make a plan to do a months worth of shopping at one time. Hoping to use a $200.00 budget as well.

Thanks for the post and God Bless!

We live by faith, not by sight.
Amanda,
Thank you for the verse- what a thrill to look that up- like finding a treasure!
You are so right!

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD11- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD8- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added spice of flavor to our family.

DS4- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He likes to think he's in charge and often is! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
