I'm Trading My Sorrows

Mr. Steady and I had a wonderful dinner last evening. Maiden did a wonderful job keeping the other kidlets occupied so that we could have special alone time. During dinner we discussed many things- among them the post I wrote earlier in the day about my fear and worry . . . .
And what did my dear Mr. Steady do? Dear Reader, he took my hand, bowed his head and began to pray. After his moving prayer, he spoke such wonderful encouragement to my heart. He reminded me of how far we have come and how God has carried us these past two years. He spoke of how he believes God is in this and working through it. When I shared how I know God Can but am afraid He won’t- Mr. Steady looked at me and said “Why Not?”
Why not, indeed. This is something I’ve been pondering on and praying on ever since Mr. Steady uttered it. It reminds me that I am utterly undeserving of any good gift from God—what have I, a sinner, done to deserve it? Not one thing. The thing is- I won’t ever deserve it but the God who loves me showers His grace and mercy upon me and gives me the good gifts any way.
I need to kick this pessimism to the curb and remember that God loves to give good and perfect gifts. I believe there are still bumps in the road ahead but I know He won’t let me fall. He holds me in His strong right arm. I need that word picture- I need to carry that picture in my mind of Him holding me- pulling me close and holding me upright.

I’m trading my sorrows,
I’m trading my shame,
I’m laying them down for the Joy of the Lord . . . .
I am pressed but not crushed,
Persecuted not abandoned,
Struck down but not destroyed.
I am blessed beyond the curse,
For His promise will endure,
That His joy’s gonna be my strength.
Though the sorrow may last for the night,
His joy comes with the morning.

Sigh. That’s my theme song right now. Such powerful words! I am pressed and I am struck down but I am not crushed or destroyed—I am blessed and I will endure because THE LORD IS MY STRENGTH.

What a wonderful husband you have to have such faith and to pray with you!!! God bless him! Not all men would handle a situation like that..... you have been blessed!
