Home Sweet Simple Home

Its beginning to look a lot like . . .

Its beginning to look more like Christmas here on the homestead.
Here’s a bit of a peek at my porch. We are blessed with an enclosed front porch and this little table sits to the right of the door.

Here’s another view of the house- this with all our new snow. I took the picture at dusk- such a pretty time of evening.

See all the tracks zig-zagging thru the yard? You can tell children live here! That bump-out on the left side? My huge eat-in kitchen. It needs a bit of remodeling but I know I’m blessed. It measures approx. 14’x14’. I need a stepstool to reach the top 3 shelves of my cabinets (ceiling is 10 feet and my cabinets go all the way). The first winter we lived here and the snow & ice on the roof came sliding and crashing down I screamed. It made such a noise- rumble, slide, crash!

Amy,
What a nice house. Is your roof metal? I couldn't tell if it was metal or shingles.
Did you add on the kitchen, or was it part of the original house?

Thanks

Yes, our roof is metal (except for the front porch which is shingled) and I just love it. I love, love, love the sound of the rain pitter-pattering on it . . . .
We didn't add on the kitchen- we haven't added on to our home at all- just a lot of remodeling as it was stuck in the 70s when we purchased it.
The house is old- we've been able to trace it as far back as 1874 with maps and documents. We can tell from the foundation and such what was added on later . . . . . and we've dug up all kinds of pieces of pottery. glass, coal and a few buttons and such in our yard.
Our barn/garage behind the house is an old carriage barn- the children have found ba-zoodles of horse shoe nails out there!
The basement is what one would term "a Michigan Basement"-- 2 coal rooms with sloped walls and a coal shute plus the furnace room (very small) and a crawl space under the addition. Icky, really.
Bonus--- a dressing room just off the master bedroom. We made it into a nursery and it will soon be a small library.

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD11- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD8- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added spice of flavor to our family.

DS4- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He likes to think he's in charge and often is! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
