Lincoln's Words and always being found thankful

When searching for Abraham Lincoln’s Thanksgiving Proclamation speech I found something else, and found it to be so interesting that I wanted to share.
Lincoln’s Thanksgiving Proclamation was given October 3, 1863, only a few months after more than fifty thousand Americans lost their lives at Gettysburg.
Later, President Lincoln is to have said to a friend,
When I left Springfield [to assume the Presidency] I asked the people to pray for me. I was not a Christian. When I buried my son, the severest trial of my life, I was not a Christian. But when I went to Gettysburg and saw the graves of thousands of our soldiers, I then and there consecrated myself to Christ.”
Incredible, is it not? I’ve been thinking on these words today and on these- from Lincoln’s Thanksgiving Proclamation,
. . . .The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessing of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others- have been added—which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God . . . . No human counsel hath devised nor hath any moral hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy. It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and voice by the whole American people.”
Of course, we should give thanks to God each and every day- but this isn’t about us as individuals, it’s about us, the American People. One day set aside each year to collectively give thanks as a nation. Does anyone else besides me see this as remarkable?
In the midst of all the financial turmoil Mr. Steady and I have been going through, it has been uppermost in my mind that He use this for His good. I have and continue to pray that by being open and honest about this struggle and sharing how the Lord provides for us again and again that we may not only influence others but bring others to Christ through how we deal with it all. In particular, I pray to influence my new brother-in-law. My sister’s husband is not a Christian. He is a wonderful man. He attends church and seems to be open to what he is hearing. He just has not made that final, firm decision. I believe it is not a matter of “if he will” but “when he will”.
I know that the Lord has a reason and a purpose, one that is for our ultimate good, for this seemingly insurmountable struggle. I can quite honestly say that I am thankful for this financial turmoil and for the opportunity to shine for the Lord in a different way. It is my desire that others see in me one who’s heart follows after His no matter what.
Lord, may You always find me thankful.
Always.

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD11- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD8- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added spice of flavor to our family.

DS4- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He likes to think he's in charge and often is! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
