Home Sweet Simple Home

Another daily cost breakdown

1:43 PM, 2007-Oct-1 .. Posted in Menus .. 0 comments .. Link
Today I am giving a cost breakdown for this Friday’s meals.
Breakfast: Country Breakfast Skillet- cost 22 cents for six eggs, potatoes and green pepper are free from our own harvest, 40 cents for 4 tbsp. of cooked and crumbled bacon, shredded cheese (co-jack) is 40 cents for a ¼ cup that will be sprinkled on top when finished cooking. We’ll serve the skillet with toast- bread that we were given for free (local bread ministry in our area).
Total Cost for breakfast: $1.02
Lunch: Diner Dinner- Diner dinner is simply me listing the available leftovers and the kids ordering by writing their selections on a little order pad (purchased at Big Lots years ago). Maiden plays short-order cook and puts it all together for each person. A fun way to use up leftovers.
Total Cost for Lunch: $0.
Supper: Fish Fry, mac-n-cheese, salad- We’re having friends over for supper tonight (a family of 7). Mr. Steady will cook up the fish he and Mr. Conductor have caught over the summer (free). He’ll use approximately 3-48 oz. containers of veg. oil @ $1/each= $3.00. I’ll cook up 5 boxes of good ol’ mac-n-cheese (@ 33 cents a box plus 20 cents for milk, $1.25 for butter) for $3.10. We’ll serve prepackaged salad purchased BOGO for $2.88 (that’s 2 bags) mixed with half a head of ice burg lettuce @ 63 cents  and fresh tomato wedges from our garden (free). Salad dressing is free (My mom bought 10 bottles of dressing for a dinner and passed on the remaining bottles to us).
Dessert will be made by my dear friend, Tam.
Total cost for Supper: $9.62
Friday’s meal total: 1.02+0+9.62= $10.64.
Possible Snacks: sliced apples with peanut butter (or plain), fruit snacks and Oreos for Mr. C., leftover cake if there is any, cheese crackers. Beverages- milk, water, juice and cider (with supper).
At a glance: Our total for the day is just under $11.00 and that includes having friends over for dinner. It definitely helps when the main course for dinner is practically free (except for the oil). Knowing that dinner would be more expensive than normal and the need for room in the fridge for the thawing fish and prepped salad- we’ll be eating up leftovers at lunch time- which helps to keep our cost quite low for the day.

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD11- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD8- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added spice of flavor to our family.

DS4- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He likes to think he's in charge and often is! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
