New recipe: Toad in Hole Bake

I found a new recipe for Toad in the Hole and wanted to share. The kids really liked it- but I must confess I find I like my toads the way my momma use to make them.

Toad in the Hole Bake
8 slices bread
1 Tbsp. butter, softened
1 cup shredded cheese (your choice)
4 eggs
2 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
Preheat oven to 425*. Cut a hole in the center of 4 of the bread slices- use a 1.5 in. cookie cutter or rim of a glass. Spread butter over other 4 bread slices. Place buttered slices butter side down in 13x in. dish. Top the slices with half of the cheese and then place “hole-y” bread on top. Break 1 egg into each hole. Sprinkle each toad with rest of cheese and bacon crumbles.
Bake 10-12 minutes or until cheese is melted and eggs are set.
Cost breakdown:
bread (loaf of bread purchased for 89 cents @ Aldi’s- 22 slices comes to 4 cents/slice) 8 slices for 32 cents
Butter (purchased for $1.99/pound) .06/Tbsp.
Shredded cheese (purchased for $1.76 for 2 cups) 88 cents
4 eggs (1 doz. eggs purchased on sale 99 cents) 33 cents
Bacon (I keep cooked crumbled bacon in my fridge to add to salads and scrambled eggs etc. so this is a guesstimate- 3 tbsp. of crumbled bacon) 30 cents
Total cost for 4 servings: $1.89                 47 cents/serving
ht: Kraft Foods [I tweaked the recipe from Kraft]

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD11- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD8- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added spice of flavor to our family.

DS4- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He likes to think he's in charge and often is! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
