Offensive odor

Okay- if you have boys you will understand this.
Boy pe* smells different than girl pe*. It also seems to get in every nook and crany of the bathroom.
It seems no matter how much I scrub in there  . . . . . that odor lingers.
Others say they can't smell it- but I can.
Mothers of Boys- What do you do to combat this offensive odor?
What tips to you have to share?
Now, I understand why a friend of mine has a boys bathroom and girls bathroom at her house!

~Wash the bathroom rugs once a week
~Daily swipe with 1/2 strength Clorox
~Daily spray with Lysol
~Daily reminders to watch aim
~Daily reminders to flush
~Daily reminders to put down the toilet seats

It is different with boys, isn't it? Since I am outnumbered, this is my only defense!

Hey, I just went through that very same thing yesterday. My daughter came to me and said "Uck!" I had just washed that floor the night before. I had scrubbed it with bleach. So I went in and made sure that I washed every nook and cranny. We have an air duct close to the toilet, and I scrubbed that. It doesn't stink now, but I think what made the difference is my cleaner. I made some floor cleaner out of homemade soap (you can use Fels), amonia, borax and eucalyptus oil. I love eucalyptus oil and use it in all of my cleaning supplies. Even in homemade laundry soap. I t gets rid of BO when other thngs won't. Anyways, that was my experience yesterday. Hope it helps.

I only have 1 boy but my powder room smelled like a high school boy's room! After many days of scrubbing until I *knew* it was clean, the odor would quickly return. I finally discovered that it was the subflooring under the toilet that was holding the odor! I re-caulked the toilet and voila! odors are at bay.

another idea

I'm sure you're opposed to to using the chemical timed-release plug-ins, but what about an open decorative bowl with baking soda to absorb odors? When it's no longer effective it easily flushes, and would probably be good for the drains.
We have well-water and I have been dropping chlorine tabs into the back of our toilet tank to keep slime from building up in it, so it might be that adding a tsp of bleach into the back of the toilet each night might also help.
One other idea might be to scrub down all the walls within range of the water spray... like 4' all around.

Good luck!! And make them drink water!!

My Husband (DH)-
Mr. Steady

My rock and biggest supporter. The glue that keeps the family sane. He is like deep, deep water- it takes a lot to see a ripple.

DD11- Our Maiden in Waiting- By the world's standard she's a 'tween'. By ours and the Lord's- this is the time of her years of preparation. She is eagerly learning what it means to keep a home and daily becomes more and more of a helper to her Mama.

DD8- Sassafras My Sassy middle child. She holds her own so sweetly and has such an empathetic heart. While real Sassafras is used for flavoring- She is that added spice of flavor to our family.

DS4- Mr. Conductor- The train aficionado in the family. He likes to think he's in charge and often is! He's also the biggest Oreo fiend in the family.
